Do the Pistons push for Batum now?

Post#1 » by ripper3264 » Fri Jul 11, 2014 4:49 pm

Lebron is 'coming home' and if we want to have any chance of making the playoffs we need a very good defender at the SF spot. Jsmoove showed us all last year he cant guard the quicker wing players and we are in a division where there are a lot of those now. I think bringing in Batum would be a good fit, thoughts?

Why wouldn't we have been pushing for him before? How does Lebron shifting from one team in the east to another completely push us out of playoff contention?

Everyone... breathe.

I don't think Batum is a real option in a S&T with Portland. Not to say the value isn't similar, but Portland just signed Kaman and they already have Lopez and Aldridge. Portland would just be getting themselves into the same situation as we are in with too many bigs and no wings.
It's not happening.

Like everyone here was willing to do Monroe for Batum a few days ago, nothing changed with that.... The problem is that Portland most likely would reject the offer.

Lebron was in the East before and he's in the East now.

As far as I know, we don't play division teams any more often than other East teams, do we?

Divisions only matter if you win a division to get a guaranteed top 3 playoff spot.

We do play division teams 4 times a year and other eastern teams 2 times.

If Batum is not the answer, who is? I dont think we can get by with Singler/Smith as our small forwards in this division

This is not true, we play eastern conference teams 4 times and western conference 2 times. Divisions only matter for top playoff seeding

The bigger question is, why should we push for anything now? Did anyone really expect us to compete for the conference title next year against a Miami Heat team revamped around the "Big Three?" And Melo going to Chicago has always been on the table. The only thing that's changed atop the Eastern Conference pecking order is that Miami has been replaced by Cleveland.

In short, you never make moves in response to another team. We were three or so years away from true contention yesterday, and we're still three or so years away from true contention today. SVG just needs to keep his focus on his own team and stay his course for building us into a championship squad regardless of what other teams do.

I think the Kaman signing showed that Portland was looking for something cheaper than Monroe that would still let them keep their other assets.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Detroit can push all they want for Nic Batum, doesn't mean Portland is going to even pick up the phone.
