No, they can't. Bledsoe is an RFA, that means it can take up to 3 days to match. So it's unlikely they can get Bledsoe signed to a contract before the Parsons deadline expires, unless they work out some sort of sign-and-trade quickly which would require the consent of both Bledsoe and the Suns. If that's the case and Morey is under the gun, I'm sure the Suns will ask for an arm and a leg with all that time sensitive leverage. And that's assuming Bledsoe can't find a better deal elsewhere.

Very inhibiting contract signed by Parsons makes him very untradable.

I'd just let Parsons walk.

My firsts priority would be Carmelo Anthony. Still don't understand why they focused on Bosh and not Melo. Bosh would have been a mediocre fit with them. His production would be curbed playing along a center who occupies the low blocks like Howard. They'd be overpaying for what he could provide them in that role.

My second priority would be Bledsoe.

If they can't work a sign and trade and the Suns match, just offer one year contracts to Paul Pierce, Chris Humpries and Rodney Stuckey and keep the cap space for next season.

Bledsoe is a Restricted Free Agent. The Suns will take their 3 days, and just wait out the Parsons deadline before making a decision on any Bledsoe offer sheet. The Rockets are screwed either way, no chance of getting the Suns to make a decision on matching/not-matching Bledsoe before the Parsons 3 day deadline expires.

They struck out on Melo. They already tried their pitch and they're not in the mix. LaLa and her acting career doesn't want to go to an unglamorous oil-and-gas town after what those miserable years in Denver did to her aspiring career. The Rockets don't have enough room to offer Melo his Bird Max like the Knicks offered him (or that the Heat offered Bosh), nor can they offer him the non-bird max like the Lakers could. Nor do the Rockets offer a good chance at a ring compared to a better fit like Chicago in an easier conference.

They wanted Melo and tried to woo him. Melo doesn't want them. No glamor, no money, no chance to win.

Looks bad right now, but the off-seasons not finished yet...

They have cap-space for a max player. They can go for Bledsoe, Deng... or they can match Parsons... or they can sign 1-year stop-gaps (Pierce, Marion, C. Butler) to a satisfying deal (like $7-9m) and wait until next year, for Love, Rondo, etc. I'd obviously elect for the latter, if I'm Morey, and try to get Harden/Howard to develop their chemistry more, because that team didn't look very serious last season.

Lin's OK in the right situation (i.e. a fringe playoff team that has a bunch of injured #1 options and needs a fan-favorite half-hero to cheer for, like the Lakers or '10/11 Knicks), but there was a decent reason Beverley started and Lin did not. End of the day, Lin got that $25m contract because of Linsanity and the international hoopla he created, not his game. I would've been pissed if Morey managed to get a TPE for Lin's $15m expiring; shedding a 1st (likely in the early 20's) sounds fair.

Good point. This offseason may just be a complete disaster. It's not like the Rockets are going to be much worse next year if all they can really end up doing is retaining Parsons, but relative to expectations and potential use of assets this is pretty much going as bad as it can for them so far.

So Morey lets Parsons and the Mavs strong-arm him into what is soon to be a 15+ mil per year contract, causing him to lose his chances on any major free agents. How could any self-respecting GM not account for this scenario?

I'm beginning to question whether Morey's number evaluation abilities are worse than his treatment of players.

Lin gets a lot of flack on this board but We'll see how the Rockets do without a facilitator. Even in NYC Lin made a team composed of Tyson Chandler, Field, Novak, Jared Jefferies, and later a crippled Amare looks like playoff team. I'm sure Chandler Parson will be half the player he was last year without Lin giving him the ball.

Rocket still needs a stretch 4 and even then their Offense is going to be Harden Iso and no one able to pass to Howard in the post. Rocket is going to be a good team during regular season but first round fodder in the playoffs.

I commend Morey for trying. He wanted to make his contender team into title favorites (which it's hard to believe they wouldn't have been with Bosh). He struck out, sure, but it's no different than where they would have been otherwise.

Right now, they need to make a significant push for Gasol before the 3 days are up to match Parsons. If that doesn't work, they may be better off letting Parsons walk and go after Ariza or Deng. Otherwise, regroup. It's not time to panic yet. You still have two outstanding players and a growing core.

So… they gave away Lin with a pick without being sure that Bosh was coming? How does that make any sense?

Let Parsons walk, divide the cap space on a few good players, hope Nick Johnson and the RGV boys blow up, I think they are ready.

We have **** Howard & Harden... far from screwed.
Best hope is for Harden to give a damn on defense and this team will be fine.
