I doubt Lance Stephenson even want to come here now after such a lack of initial interest unless we throw the bank at him, in which a doubly doubt
Eh there were articles saying that Lance's camp was waiting for Jazz to match Hayward, in hopes to get overpaid by us.
That's the key phrase in which I emphasized in my first post. I would certainly hope not

My bad. How much would you think would be a fair offer to him ? 12m? 13m?

That is good, and nice, and sweet. Best wishes Gordon...sincerely

Now, GET TO WORK CHO! Sign Lance and let's get this team going forward. Then sign Hump or Marvin, get a good backup PG, and do a trade of Hendo or Neal....and quickly!!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

The only offer to Stephenson that would be 'fair' to both parties based on production would be between $8-10 million annually, but upon Charlotte's $15.8 million annual offer-sheet to Hayward I guess I couldn't be but so mad if they offered Stephenson $12 million. It would be like a sigh of relief on top of the sigh of relief that the Jazz matched that albatross deal

I think $12M was a palatable offer even before the market exploded. If a max contract needed to be offered, I'd probably do it with an unguaranteed fourth year which becomes guaranteed if he makes an all-star team or something. I hope we can get him for under $14M, but Lance is one of the last big names left, and there's still several teams that I guess are likely to have interest: us, Miami, LA, Chicago (if Pau doesn't take too much), Phoenix, Atlanta, and whichever of Dallas/Houston doesn't get Parsons. We're one of the few teams that have max cap space but haven't used it yet.
If the hypothesis on the new TV deal is correct, and the salary cap could go keep going up towards $80M in a few years (like I have seen floated around here- can someone point me to a source?), $16M for Lance Stephenson is only 1/5 of the cap, which is the equivalent of 12.6M with the current cap. So long-term, it's not as bad.

Re: The Gordon Hayward Thread
Its good to know that Jordan is willing to spend and that he, and the rest of front office, has made a good impression on Gordon but I am so happy that the Jazz matched that huge contract. Gordon, it's been nice knowing you. Having fun in Utah with all that money.

Cho has a real penchant for poaching players from the Utah Jazz. His first free-agency signing as a GM with the Blazers was offering Wesley Matthews a contract that the Jazz weren't willing to match, then he signed Al Jefferson from the Jazz with the Bobcats, and now he literally took it to the 'max' to try to acquire Gordon Hayward from the Jazz as the Hornets. Get ready for the Alec Burks sweepstakes next season

Didn't Cho also go pretty hard after Paul Millsap when he was with the Blazers?

Re: The Gordon Hayward Thread
Glad to see the Jazz matched, but also glad to hear that our organization made a strong impression on Hayward during their pitch. We seem to connect with the guys we covet in free agency, like Big Al last year, hopefully we keep it up. Classy move by the Jazz as well, not making us sweat it out the whole weekend.
I'd love to get Lance at around $12 million, but wouldn't want to go any higher unless the front office knows something we don't that suggests he'll be a model citizen and not ego trip when he gets to be the star acquisition of "his" new team.

We did you a favor and matched early. I don't expect Cho will ever be in a position to return the favor, so enjoy the free gift.
