Should have waited on PF till Boozer dropped. Could have him cheaper than $7M on waivers.

Clifford has constantly preached about wanting size at each position, and well, at 6'9 235 or so Williams isn't exactly the biggest PF out there.

I think he mainly plays SF, so he is pretty big for that

Did he play mainly PF for the Jazz last year? I have no idea.

I hope this signing mean that Marvin Williams come off the bench as a 3rd stringer but that contract amount tell me hell no he isn't.

The big number on the contract is an yearly overpay to get him on 2 years. Evidently he either had other offers for longer years or we just bid against ourselves.

Yea he started at PF, but the other bigs on the team were centers, the 2nd best PF was Jeremy Evans (who is also more of a SF weigh less than 200 pounds) so Marvin was really their only option

I still would've preferred Deng. We could've got a former All-Star rather than a bust by accord in Williams for just $3 million more a year

exact same standing reach as Vonley 9'0" and 2 inches more than Zeller, FYI. size isnt all about height/weight.

According to basketball reference he played PF for 95% of his possessions last year.

I really dislike this signing. Why not just give McBob 2 years 16 million then.

Makes no sense. I want to hear the presser from Cho.

No wonder they were one of the worst teams in the league. Starting Marvin Williams at PF was all a part of the tanking strategy. I'm about to go do some statistical research to see how the team fared with him on/off the court

It all has to do with timing. We got hit with the McJesus bidding war in the middle of negotiations with Hayward.

Do people really think that if we offer 2/20 for a guy like Deng, who has the exact same offer on the table from Miami, that he would pass on South Beach, for us?

We have to overpay, that's the way it is.

The annual salary sucks and is an overpayment, but the 2 year deal, actually maintains our flexibility.

If both Henderson+Jefferson pick up their player options, their deals and Marvin's will expire at the same time, giving us 27.5m in cap room, just in time for MKG's new deal and the vaunted FA class of 2016.

So, you want to start Tolliver at PF?

Williams could easily be starting for us if Cody or Noah dont step up right away. Otherwise he will likely play 30 minutes a game between SF-PF.

Would you have been comfortable giving those minutes to Tolliver?

I am perfectly fine starting any of Vonleh, Cody, Bismack, even MKG at power forward next to Big Al.

Even assuming that Clifford sticks to playing players at their main positions: Where is Marvin Williams getting 30 minutes? Al and Biz take center, Vonleh and Zeller probably split 35 power forward minutes between themselves, maybe more. MKG starts at SF like usual, likely with a boost in minutes. If we sign a starting two-guard like Lance (I haven't lost all hope yet), we still need minutes for Henderson, Hairston, and maybe CDR and JT. Where does Williams get 30 minutes? Tolliver proved he was just fine for 15-20 minutes and that's all we needed. Mike Scott, Tolliver, Rocky, Marion, and a number of different players could have filled this role for half price or less.

We are 1 injury on our front line away from a nightmare. I think we can see Zeller and Vonleh on the court some together, and I think Biz is going to get mainly garbage minutes.

I think against many teams you can go with Zeller/Vonleh inside at times. I also believe that Marvin potentially starts. MKG played around 24.2 minutes a game. Jeff Taylor has not been healthy enough consistantly to rely on him. Having Marvin as an option there is worth 12-15 minutes. Zeller played 17.3 minutes a game last year and Vonleh should probably get the same. I think Zeller gets around 25 or so this year which takes up around 42 of the 48 minutes at PF, but I think Cody probably gives you some minutes at Center as well.

This would leave a breakdown of this.

SF- MKG- 27 mpg, Marvin 12, 9 to Taylor/PJ ect.
PF- Marvin- 18, Cody- 16, Vonleh- 14
C- Al Jefferson- 35, Cody 9, Biz 4- cleanup.

Vonleh is VERY raw and will need a bit of time this year. Again, those are ballpark. Marvin could get more time at PF and Cody More at C.

Biz should be taking all the backup center minutes. The bench would implode defensively without him, especially if Vonleh isn't NBA-ready. But if nothing else, I'd rather have seen Tolliver+Adrien combine for half this cost. Could bring CDR back too.

I'd like to think we'll resign Kemba too, but I don't know...he didn't go to UNC.

As long as Jefferson has a half decent season, he's not picking up that option. Looking at the signings so far, and assuming this is now a trend, there's little to no chance Al Jefferson doesn't land a huge contract next summer. The way things are, Henderson could probably have landed himself a 4/32 deal somewhere this summer. Wouldn't completely surprise me if he opted out next summer.

I think your opening night starting lineup will be as follows:

C - Al Jefferson
PF - Marvin Williams
SF - Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
SG - Gerald Henderson
PG - Kemba Walker

Lance is not coming to Charlotte except to play road games and maybe score some of that sweet weed P.J. has. Because of this dumb signing of Williams, who is insurance against the inexperience of Zeller/Vonleh, I don't see us spending much more cash.

Remember, there should be some money saved over to resign Kemba next year.

We're going all in on a 2 year window with Al.

Marvin has experienced Alfense, and knows what it is about.

We get our backup SF who offers a different dimension to MKG.

We add experience to the PF rotation.

We maintain future flexibility.
