I think if they had 1 pick only that would be a possibility.
But I believethey saw that Payton could be a very good pg and they wanted to get one of the top bigs first since the other PGs were easier to obtain with their 2nd pick.
Who really knows why, but let's see how this first year works out for all of them to better assess this.

I am guessing with Burke, Exum will be more of a scoring guard and Burke the play maker for the Jazz, otherwise they may put Burke on the trading block for other needed positions?

I think Payton still has a chance to be the best PG in this draft.

he reminds me of a young dwayne wade with regards to his first step...they both have that sudden burst of speed you covet in a guard, jazz fans caught a keeper with him

We aren't talking about stats, we're talking about their general profile and how their game looks.

It's like how Giannis isn't posting great stats yet, but just from watching him on the court you can tell that he's going to be a rare talent in the league.

Based on his size, quickness and passing ability, Exum to me looks like a future matchup nightmare for opposing NBA teams. Even if he was like 22-23yo I'd be excited about him, but this kid just turned 19? Wow. Even if he struggles a bit at first to adjust to the league, his longterm upside is immense imo

Most top 5 picks in the history of the league had hall of fame potential. Exum is no exception. He is an elite athlete, with elite tools. So to answer your question, he can be a hall of famer, if everything goes right. Of course he can also be a bust, or anything in between. You're going to have to wait years before you'll know it.

Well one of those teams definitely won't be the Magic. Here are the stats from Payton's games:

12pts 9rbs 8asts vs Rockets
8pts 9rbs 10asts vs Celtics

18 pts (on 5 for 9 shooting) 4rbs 8asts 4stls 1blk vs Pistons

But personally I think people are reading too much into Summer League.

why cant they all 3 be good players? why does anyone have to hope 1 player is good and other players arent?

Sign me up to the Exum bandwagon. This kid has the highest potential in this draft.

That crossover was reminiscent of a young D-Wade, Exum's step is extremely quick. He'll light the league on that alone.

Orlando Magic dun goofed.

Summer league are glorified pick up games. People need to remember that. Paul George was horrific in summer league (averaged like 10 points on 25% shooting and 6 turnovers per game) and Jerryd Bayless scored 30 PPG in his summer league debut.

I don't even watch it anymore because its so unimportant.

Really? I think they are a good fit together. Exum the STARTING point guard and Burke the backup. Burke IMO, isn't a great starter but he would be a killer backup.

Yeah I agree, while I love Payton, he looks like the real deal. Gordon looks like the typically tweener who can't do anything well. I'm going to give him a slight pass right now considering how young the kid is, suprisingly he is younger than Exum.

Personally I think the Magic should have just went with Exum at 4, kept Saric at 12, so we didn't have to overpay to move up 2 spots to grab Payton.
