Probably the bottom of the barrel. Detroit has 3 of their best players that excel exclusively around the rim. The Pistons still have an inefficient point guard as well. The team is still very young, with no general concept of playing team defense. It'll be a testament to SVG's greatness if he can get the Pistons at .500, let alone a playoff berth with the roster in its current rendition.

I think Pistons fans should expect to see more of the little things adding up. Factors such as communication, energy, and effort. A real sense of chemistry building up is what I'd expect before getting into ranking teams.

I dont know, Its not like we dont have as much talent as most of these other teams. Its about making it work, so we might miss out on the playoffs this year while Stan tries to make some improvements after actually playing with the guys.

I dont see why yall think we dont have a chance hawks hornets and nets are not better then us they had better coaching last season plus SVG already said smith will not play at sf we got a better coach plus added shooting we will be much better if this team can win 40 games which they will and still miss the playoffs im cool with that

Assuming each team's main players stay healthy:
1. Bulls
2. Pacers
3. Cavaliers
4. Washington
5. Heat
6. Hawks
7. Raptors
8. Hornets
9. Nets
10. Pistons
11. Knicks

Looking through the teams and taking into account what I think SVG can do with this roster as it stands...I'd say anywhere from 5-9. The talent is there without a doubt. That's never been the problem, the problem has been chemistry and coaching, as well as shooting. A lot of which has been addressed in the off season so far. Take into account the improvements of guys like KCP and Dre. All in all we shall see...

Ouch. Lots of pessimists here. Doesn't having a dominant frontcourt and a great coach mean anything??

I'm not pessimistic at all. I think we'll see improvement from players like Drummond and KCP. I'm hopeful Dinwiddie will get on the floor and hopefully contribute.

But, Smith and Jennings are not team players. The Monroe situation is unresolved. SVG is a great coach, but he isn't a miracle worker.

You're forgetting we're pretty much bringing back the same team that was blown out by a lot of those top 5 lottery teams.

We're bringing back most of our roster, but we will be a dramatically different team in terms of lineups, philosophies, and of course, coaching. Don't underestimate the importance of the (impending?) big 3 rotation and much-improved floor-spacing.

Maybe I'm just an optimist. Maybe I'm a blind homer. Either way, I find it hard to believe we won't improve drastically.

Not being pessimistic, just realistic. Best case we get 7/8th place.

You'd be surprised about what a well coached team does in the regular season games. Based on talent, we may not be ranked high. But based on the in game situation, calling the right plays on offense and defense makes that clock tick and our points go up. You guys worry too much about the playoffs when we haven't gotten to that point yet. Our coach addition alone is better than adding the best FA that we realistically could've added. Having Stan is better than having Monroe and could potentially be as important as Drummond in the future.

I think best case we probably end up 7th in the East. Worst case, which is also a good case because we have our first, somewhere like 11th.

The Cavs, Wizards, Hawks, Raptors, Hornets all will be a bit ( ) better while the Nets, Pacers, and Heat are worse.

Assuming we make no major roster changes I think we will most likely finish 9th or 10th.

The Nets, Hornets, Wizards, and of course, the Heat all lost major contributors. The Pacers are on the verge of imploding. The Cavs have a rookie coach and a slew of mediocre young talent. The east is WIDE open in my opinion.

Top Tier - Championship potential
Cavs
Pacers
Bulls

Second Tier - Playoff locks
Nets
Wizards
Raptors
Heat

Third Tier - Fighting for final playoff spot
Hawks
Pistons
Hornets

This is a much harder exercise than I thought. Each team in the second and third tiers have a lot of variability

Nets - get Lopez back, but will DWill stay healthy, and Garnett even play? New coach?
Wizards - look like the real deal, replace Ariza with Pierce, will they be any better?
Raptors - surprisingly solid last year, retained Lowry, should be there again
Heat - if Wade breaks down, they might slide quickly. PG and C will be more exposed than ever.

Hawks - surprise last year, Danny Ferry did magic, if they stay healthy, should be in the playoffs again.
Hornets - Jefferson was impressive, but do they really have more talent than us?
Pistons - new coach, should be a playoff team if talent plays as a team - much better D, shot selection

Seems like it will be a dogfight. As usual, injuries will play a part, and free agency and trades are not done yet. I'm really, really looking forward to this year and hoping (expecting) we get into the playoffs.

As we stand now, and assuming we re-sign Monroe, we're still bottom 5 locks in the East. I just can't honestly pick 5 teams we are clearly better than.

#1. Chicago with healthy Rose, Noah and now adding Gasol probably cream of crop in the East
#2. Cleveland - Yes Lebron is this good. James, Kyrie, TT, Sideshow Bob, whatever they trade Waiters and picks for.
#3. Miami with Bosh, Wade, Deng are fringe contenders
#4. Indiana still strong, but have cracks that could expand to become deep fractures. Needs to use MLE to replace Stephenson.
#5. Toronto returns everybody.
#6. Washington has a strong perimeter based team with the grinders at the 4/5
#7. Atlanta is my Vegas long odds sleeper team - I really like the make-up and should improve a lot when healthy
#8. Wide Open IMO

Charlotte - Are they better than us on paper now or was it just coaching that made all the difference between us and them?

Nets - Seems like I'm not nearly as sold on these guys as others. Lose Pierce, probably KG and DWill out for awhile with two shot ankles. Hollins will be stablizer from the get-go though. Johnson, Lopez and then what?

Boston - Interesting case with a healthy Rondo, lotto pick in Smart, another first rounder in Young. Olynyk seems like a good solid NBA starter. Does Boston trade Rondo mid-season and tank though?

Knicks - Melo isn't enough. They're going to tank this season by hanging on to their big expirings Amare and Bargnani to go franchise player hunting next off-season with their $30M in cap space. Lotto pick + max money FA + Melo will complete rebuild for 2015-2016 season.

Orlando - Still probably a year or two away. Too young yet.

Milwaukee - Kidd is a joke. I expect a lot of drama here, and young team could be destroyed by it.

Philly is still in full tank mode AGAIN.

So I put us between #8 and #11 in the conference.
