can we wait past 1 game of SL before writing this in stone. Because this was not the story 3 days ago when he flopped in an fan open practice.

how about we actually see how they produce before we start blaming them for poor drafting.

This is how I feel too. Payton is nice but he doesnt look like a star, neither does Gordon.

I will gladly dedicate post 1000 to Payton

I love his drive, his size and physicality at the position. He plays like a bulldog. He is stupidly aggressive and has awesome size for his position. Him and Oladipo will be an absolute terror defensively. The guy draws a ton of fouls and has amazing court vision. I think Rondo is his floor.

I mean as a prospect even before the draft. Anything can change with hindsight. Payton/Gordon have more defensive potential..but I'd mostly be worried about how well Gordon develops with his b-ball skills. Seems like a pretty big risk to take at #4.

again

we are literally basing this on one summer league game. Exum hasn't even outplayed Payton in the summer league and many of the WOAH plays Exum made Payton made similar ones. Like I said I guess we'll see if all the Exum hype is legit.

Payton's biggest offense was playing for a small school and not having the publicity that Exum has. He was good enough that Orlando felt comfortable passing up Exum banking on getting Payton

have you watched Gordon? great defensive skills, great ball handling (almost elite for his size), great vision and passing, good BBIQ. The only "skill" he needs to work on is his shot, and that has been proven that it can be taught. you cant really teach the other skills like shooting.

Payton will be a triple double threat every night. that may not be a star to you, but its exactly what i think a star can do. again, the kid was the NCAA defensive player of the year and #2 in the nation in FTA, scoring almost 20 ppg. this isnt some scrub.

Do you really think Payton can be a franchise player? You have a top 4 pick in whats being pitched as a very good draft and you pass on a potential franchise player because of Payton?

all i have said is that he looks good. I havent said after 1 game that he will be a superstar. ill hold off until i see him play against NBA competition, not just the SL teams in Orlando last week.

Looks like he tries hard. You can see the determination dripping off him. Sign me up for the Exum bandwagon even though he's on the (gulp) Jazz.

depends on what you view a franchise player. and why cant Gordon+Payton become the corner stones of our franchise? because 1 of them didnt wow people in SL? neither did Dwight, and he became our franchise player.

wow man really? Jeryd bayless looked like a star too in Summer league, I mean it's ridiculous man, "look like a star" playing against players that will most likely be in Europe or the d-league this year? I thought Exum looked good, but can i say he looks like a star just from 1 SL game? when in the open practice against REAL NBA players on the Jazz he struggled? Just temper that a bit i mean theres a long way to go until the season starts but he still looked good. Can't get high or too low because that sets you up for a possible let down, especially when there are no guarantees that everything will translate when the season starts.

Just hold the arbitrary statements and just wait until they start playing, it's a while to go but not that long. Even then we will still have to wait a few years down the line to know how these guys shook out, i mean we barely know where the last draft class careers is going.

They can both be great PGs. In a guard league, we should be happy the future looks bright.

No one is saying that Exum isn't good. So far i've seen him called a sure-fire superstar, the quickest first step in the league, a tier above Tony Parker in passing and court vision, a young kobe, a young rose, a young hardaway...those are the remarks people are blasting. They are also blasting those people chastising the Magic for passing on Exum when Payton is just as young and could turn out just as good if not better.

Here is a perfect example. Based on one summer league game we already know Exum is a franchise player and Payton doesn't compare according to this guy. These are the type of posts being mocked because you know 90% of it is nothing but hype.

I will be paying very close attention to Payton and Exum this season. Guess I'll hold off judgement until then.
