This is all so silly. If Exum was being judged by his Summer League performance then he'd be crucified as a bust that showed nothing but potential.

you should because we are, it's smart to just wait and see. The proof of the pudding is in the eating so to speak, i wish both guys success but until they show me what translates to the NBA when they're going against NBA players you have to reserve judgment. That's the beauty of this thing man anything can happen both of these guys could just break out or both could struggle either way we won't know until we see it.

Man Magic fans are being super defensive. I remember lurking their board before the draft and 99% of them were hell bent on getting Exum. They shot down any trade proposals and scoffed at the idea of drafting anybody else.

I will say this, there is a reason Exum went top 5 in one of the best draft classes ever. He has crazy upside, and he showed just a glimpse of that last night. Payton could end up being better but several teams passed on him from 6-10, teams that had a hole at PG.

then you werent lurking long enough, because it wasnt anywhere close to 99% wanting Exum.

There was a few people who wanted Smart but yes it was about 90% in favor of Exum.

Edit: This was assuming that the top three went Wiggins, Parker, Embiid.

maybe 60% were resolved to taking Exum at 4 if we couldnt move up. And only 1 person i know of proposed Gordon, so that was way out of left field. Quite a few people wanted Vonleh, some wanted Randle. And quite a few wanted Smart.

Was no where near the numbers you are saying. And that isnt saying that Exum wont be good. Exum can be a great player and Orlando can still be happy with the players they chose.

Yeah i was pushing for Gordon on Jazzfanzz. I assumed Exum would be gone and i wasn't thrilled with Randle or Smart. I have to admit i was even a little disapointed when the Magic drafted him. But i have fell in love with Exum. I am from Utah and went to the open practice they had. There is a serious buzz around the Jazz this year that hasn't been there in years. Exciting times for us Jazz fans.

This. I got excited as hell watching him for the reasons you stated. I had no idea what to expect. The shock value definitely played a factor.

But now that everyone has seen him, the surprise factor is out of the way, so everyone can now commence to pick his game apart. I'll be looking at his left hand (especially when dealing with hard traps), his jumper, and his defense. Game on.

I didn't see what Penny Hardaway looked like at 18 years old. I imagine it look like Exum after watching him. Some of the best vision, anticipation, and overall floor game I've seen from a player that young. I'm going to be watching a lot of Utah Jazz games to see if he is the real deal. Utah looks like they got something really special.

I didn't want to involve Elfrid Payton in a thread about Dante Exum. And I hate using SL as a metric for projecting careers of 18 year-old kids (it's useless), but since we're comparing players - in Payton's 3 starts last week, he averaged 12 ppg, 9 apg, 7 rpg. He held his own on both sides of the floor, and I'm pretty satisfied with him as our future PG. Exum had a good showing and Jazz fans should be excited about him, but it doesn't make me regret us rolling with Payton as our franchise PG.

I'm happy that exum has looked legit so far as I wanted the Magic to pick him @ 4 but people need to pump the brakes on the better than parker, young kobe talk. If your anointing exum as the next penny after watching that 1 summer league game then what are u calling Payton after watching the video below?

Not even Rick Mahorn can make those highlights dull. Anyways, i really like what I've seen out of both of these young guys so far but we're all gonna have to wait until after they play in some games that matter before we see what they're really gonna be.

Summer League means nearly nothing, compared to what he will face in real NBA games, schedule, consistency,etc.

He is definitely the closes we have seen to Penny so far, I grew up as an Orlando fan and saw every one of his game. Exum definitely doesn't have the potential of a young Penny though. Penny was as quick as Exum, plus he was explosive. Exum just has quickness, his hops are just good.

I love me some Exum coming as a Magic fan, wish we drafted him. I think Payton has a ton of potential too, hopefully he becomes The Glove 2.0. Exum strikes me as a potential star in the making, who knows if he will reach it, but his ceiling is definitely high.
