Don't really mind the Birdman deal now, just didn't want anything longer than 2 years.

Anyhow, I think Pat is going to hold on to Cole till the trade deadline. Napier is going to need training wheels and Cole has been in our system and has championship experience, that means a lot to this team...

Don't forget Anthony Davis is a RFA in 2016 and I think Andre Drummond is too. Also, Aldridge is a FA in 2015 not in 2016.

Yeah but there is the R in the RFA which means his team can match any offer

Honestly even if Dwight is available I dont see Pat targeting him. He has questionable leadership traits and doesn't exactly have the integrity that we require in the locker room. Basically he is not a Riley guy...neither was #6 but you have to take a chance for that guy...

I can though see Pat throw the Brinks truck at KD or KLove if either of them are available...Kevin Durant is not farfetched, its Miami and its a chance to play with Bosh and in a Championship-level Org...

I'm just saying it looks as if we are pegging ourselves into a rather interesting position here. We struck lighting in a bottle in 2010, that will probably never happen ever again. I like that we will compete, I like that we aren't giving in, but I am afraid we are setting ourselves up for a decade of mediocrity. Who knows maybe Riley can convince Durrant, and Howard to team up with a then 32 year old Bosh, and 34 year old Wade, but I highly doubt it. Its really difficult to adjust from dynasty mood back down to were we are now, but it is, what it is

Drummond will get locked up wayyyy before that and New Orleans will do cartwheels to match any offer for Anthony Davis...he us going to get PAID, and unless New Orleans continues to be terrible he strikes me as the kinda guy to be content to be with a medicore team. Garnett-Lite

Um Durant is farfetched, the guy isn't leaving OKC, especially if he wins the title next year, it's a wrap.

Maroko wrote:The Cap limit for this season is $63m.

Players we effectively have under contract now:
Bosh: $20.6m
Cole: $2m
Napier: $1m
Deng: $10m
McRoberts: $5.3m
Granger: $2.1m
Birdman : $5m
------------------------
Total: $45m

Players we could sign and will likely cost more than the minimum:

Wade: ???
Haslem: ???
Chalmers: ???
-------------------------
Total: ???

Roster cap hold: $4.5m (the league automatically adds what the remaining players would cost you if they were all signed for the minimum)

Total salary so far: ~$49.5m

Which means we now have a total of ~$13.5m of cap space (but for every player we sign $0.5m goes off the roster cap hold and is added to the cap space, so if we sign Wade for $10m we will have $3m remaining of the cap space not $2.5m) PLUS a ~$2m exception we can use to sign a free agent.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the cap holds for D-Wade, UD, and Rio don't equal $1.5M. What you're alluding to only applies for empty player slots i.e. if they renounce their bird rights. You're right in that $.5M is added to cap space once a player signs a new contract but D-Wade ain't signing for $10M to fit UD & Rio in your proposed ~13.5M. It's all contingent on the order of the signings to make the math work. For example, lets suppose UD has a $7M cap hold, if he signs a 2 year/$9M contract his cap # becomes 4.5.

Decade of mediocrity? Decade? You've gotta trust Pat and Micky to put a quality product on the floor. They've got a good track record.

We also don't know which young player will make a huge leap e.g., Paul George. It could be Drummond

No way KD comes here..

Dwight doesn't need to be a leader, just protect the f*cking the rim, dunk the ball and make them FT when they matter.

Pairing Bosh with a Center should be our priority no.1, I would even open the bank for Marc next year.

Knicks already recruiting him via Calderon, Phil Jackson ain't dumb.

Anthony Davis being a restricted free agent might as well be irrelevant, as well as Drummond, any offer will be matched on those guys. We completely ruled ourselves out of 2015, and I think that would have been our best shot. Aldridge or Mark Gasol, would have made us contenders. Love is going to be gone, Lillard is a RFA, and Dwight has ETO. The only guaranteed star is Durrant and to me its just not realalistic, but hey neither was 2010

Yeah but there is the R in the RFA which means his team can match any offer

Yep and same with Lillard, too bad it'd be awesome to see one of them hit free agency. Point being it looks like a good FA class. Realistically you're looking at Durant, Howard, Horford, Noah, Brook Lopez, Dragic, and Eric Gordon just to name a few. Potential to add a nice piece next to Bosh and a then 34 year old Wade.

Aldridge has said he wants to stay in Portland. He isn't hitting FA. Love is going to LA or NY if the Cavs don't get him this offseason. Gasol would've been the only realistic option and would probably prefer whichever team Love didn't go to. 2016 or bust has to be it.
