Rockets To Pursue Trade For Rajon Rondo Or Kevin Love

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jul 14, 2014 2:31 pm

The Houston Rockets planned on matching Chandler Parsons' offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks if they were to sign Chris Bosh, but he decided to stay with the Miami Heat.

The Rockets instead turned to Trevor Ariza as a cheaper alternative in order to maintain their flexibility.

The Rockets will look to the trade market, targeting Rajon Rondo and Kevin Love.

Good luck with that after losing all your decent assets for a chance to sign Bosh.

It's funny because what they've lost this past week -- Asik, Lin, Parsons, two draft picks -- is pretty much what the Celtics reportedly wanted around trade deadline for Rondo and Brandon Bass.

They have zero trade pieces now. How will they pull this off?

Add the fact that pretty much every GM except Sam Hinkie dislikes Daryl Morey because of his gloating and absurd trade offers, and you have a pretty tough situation.

With what assets? Looking at their roster, the only pieces they have with any sort of worth are Alonzo Gee, Terrence Jones, and Patrick Beverly, who definitely do not add up to Rondo or Kevin Love. Was it not possible for them to match Parsons, and then package either him or Ariza for another piece?

They pretty much traded away Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, a 1st Round Pick, and Chandler Parsons for Trevor Ariza.

sometimes we make things too complicated. If I'm the Rockets: Bosh rep, if Lebron leaves can we get a guarantee that you sign? we're willing to give you 88 over 4...simple...no commitment- hold onto my assets...

Coming from the Celtics board, I can speak for everyone save for a few screwballs that the only person we wouldve wanted was the fish you just let get away to Dallas. lol

Now there was here-say that at last years tradedeadline, Morey called Ainge asking for Rondo and what held up the deal was that Morey woudnt inlclude Parson's in the deal. We wanted Asik and we wanted Parson's. Now they have nothing we wanted and they're gonna try and sell us their bench who will almost assuredly be comprised of future journey men. Of couse this is unconfirmed though. Who knows if that's actually what happened.

I'm sure the whole league is wondering what Morey was thinking with the parson's debacle. Mavericks got a young stud.

Don't be so sure the Rockets don't have assets, they have two young PF's and a lot of draft picks. Beverley would also be gone in a Rondo deal I'm sure

They pretty much traded Parson's away at 900k this year which was bad.

The good was getting rid of 30 million in salary between Lin and Asik. They had to give a 1st rounder for the Lakers to take him on but they got one for Asik.

I like the Ariza signing Ok and think Parson's was overrated anyway. I think overall they have come out ok if they can turn their space into a decent player. Not even a Rondo/Love.

Rondo? U'd need to change that offense around since he cant shoot well. Rondo and Dwight arent bad FT shooters. Good luck there.

What the hell could they offer to get those guys anyway?
Peja, Iverson, CP3, T-Mac, Starks, Artest. Will never get over how the 01-02 Kings got cheated by the refs.

What salary would they use for matching?
Their TE isn't big enough.

NO #1
'17 HOU #1
T.Jones
Motiejunas
$8.5m TE

Their assets... doesn't seem nearly enough for a Love or Rondo.

The Rockets have had a horrible offseason. They traded assets away for Ariza who is well past his prime. Doesn't make sense!

Hard to see them getting in the door with their assets. Would take a 3rd team like the Suns who need PFs and are overflowing with point guards and other assets to make it acceptable to the Celtics.

they're trying to pick up expiring contracts and also already have non guaranteed contracts alonzo gee, hopson, and powell from that ariza trade. i suspect non guaranteed deals, along with expirings, picks, plus a couple of their bench players to be used in a bigger trade.

Can they absorb the Salary?
Assets of Jones, Montiejunas and Beverly don't add up to much.
they have the Pelicans pick and can add a distant future one.
they needed Parsons and Asik to acquire either one of these guys IMO.
good luck

parsons is only a great asset because of his less than a million salary (not anymore)
tjones is still a good asset, young athletic pf on rooie scale contract
dmo is also good, young 7' of need time to develop, also on rookie scale contract
capela, just drafted, big man with potential
pelicans, #4-19 pick
got a 8.4m trade player exception
