Diego Maradona has criticised Fifa for awarding Argentina’s Lionel Messi the Golden Ball award for the World Cup’s best player.

Messi was presented with the award after his country’s 1-0 defeat to Germany in the final in Rio, beating the likes of Arjen Robben, James Rodriguez and Thomas Müller. Despite scoring four goals in seven matches, the Barcelona star was not at his best during the knockout stages and Maradona dismissed the decision as a “marketing plan”.

“Messi? I would give him heaven if possible,” the 1986 World Cup winner said on his television show on Telesur. “But it’s not right when someone wins something that he shouldn’t have won just because of some marketing plan.”

Not even Maradona would have given the Golden Ball award to Messi. Bang-up job, FIFA.

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

That's a typical Müller:

She asked how he feels, missing the Golden Boot only with one goal. Rough translation (Bavarian to English) of his answer: "That's something that do not interest me at all, that s***. We are champions of the world, we have the cup. You can't take the Golden Boot and do whatever the **** you want."

This.

Their offence was completely stagnant without him.

I'm much more worried about pele talking us up now. That is the true kiss of death cause at least we won euro 96 after Franz opened his mouth about re-unification.

Not really

“We had three clear chances – mine [Gonzalo Higuain’s] and Rodrigo Palacio, but we couldn’t get it. Now we have to go forward.”

He included his chance, all factual statements

It never stops making me smile. That image alone has validated his inclusion in the final roster, if not jogi's use of him.

The best thing about it was Schweinsteiger's "translation".

He told her that Müller said she's beautiful etc.

Anyways, here are some more pics.

he is right about messi not deserving it but not sure about the marketing ploy part. maybe i am out of touch with soccer ads but barely anybody in mainstream mentions golden boot or any individual wc award month after cup ends. it is not like golden boot turned forlan into some worldwide icon.
