That is his cap hold. That is what will count against the salary cap until he is signed. We will put pen to paper with Birdman last, which will take us over the cap.
Oh no. This sounds like the Juwan Howard situation from back in the 90s when we almost signed him, and the NBA said nope and took it away because we tried to be creative in the re-signings with Zo.
I am wrong right? The details aren't the same?

Teams are a lot more aware about ordering now compared to the 90s. Won't be an issue.

Sor far, i think we can get the executive award. LeBron's decision to move to the Cleveland was more personal than a move by the cavs FO.

If we didn't get it in 2011 after landing Lebron, idk how we would this year.
If you remember riles had to share the honor with the bulls guy that year

Remember: Despite the rumored $10M contract, Birdman would only eat up $915,243 of cap space this year.
how exactly does this work?
I don't really know a lot about the CBA and cap space, would be great if somebody could explain this to me!

Wow! Where the hell is all this money coming from? Did Wade trade his salary for magic beans?

Naw, the CBA says you get a cap hold commensurate for non-executed contracts once the player and team agree to terms, which is the problem you could run into here. But as long as we don't iron out the little details yet (flat or raises? player option? etc) then we haven't agreed to terms yet, and so his cap hold remains ~$900K. he's just verbally committed to return, and we've come to agreement on the general framework of a deal (2 years, $5M each). But we won't get those little things figured out until we've spent all our capspace, and then we we'll finish his deal (at least, publicly that's how it'll go), and we'll be all good.
