Rockets To Pursue Trade For Rajon Rondo Or Kevin Love

They pretty much traded away Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, a 1st Round Pick, and Chandler Parsons for Trevor Ariza.

On top of that they had no reason to do anything with Parsons, could've just kept him there another season for 1m. They could've just basically moved Lin (not really necessary with Beverly, plenty of cheaper backup pgs) for Ariza. Instead gave up all that. They've hilariously botched every move they've made this off-season.

The reality here is Morey has completely crippled this franchise with a wildly speculative offseason that has not panned out.

He didn't pick up the absurdly cheap option on Parsons. Can anyone paint me even a semi-plausible scenario where that decision could have turned out sensibly? There was absolutely no upside to making Parsons an RFA especially given the number of teams with gobs of cap space this offseason.

TRADING AWAY ASIK AND LIN FOR PEANUTS
After reportedly receiving numerous offers for Asik last fall, he settles for very little. He basically gives Lin away.

COMPLETE WHIFF ON TOP TIER FREE AGENTS
With $20+m in cap space you expect to have something substantial to show for it. Instead? Trevor Ariza.

The Rockets have taken a major step back. They've still got some cap space and trade exceptions but they do not have the assets to land Rondo or Love.

Not only that but, usually, 15 million expiring deals are valuable, usually for those that need it for the following offseason. This could of been traded to several teams for not much but Houston wouldn't have to give up a pick to trade Lin at that point.

There hasn't been an expiring used in a meaningful trade in many years now. It's been a decade since the days when those were really valuable; nowadays nearly all larger expirings just quietly expire or else get traded for bits and pieces (the Maggette-Gordon swap is the last one I can think of that netted assets, and that was 2 years after the deal went down).

Also, we were talking about trade assets not about their roster/talent. The only thing they lost they was of value with the Lin/Asik deals was their own first-rounder, a relatively small value since it'd be projected to be in the last 5-6 picks in the draft. And they gained the NOLA first, which along with Jones would be their best asset. I don't quite get why they didn't match Parsons, but they couldn't have traded him for a while and the rest of their assets weren't going to net Kevin Love so I don't think they really screwed themselves on the trade front for the near future.

Pau Gasol to the Lakers for Kwame's expiring, Critt & picks was 6 and a half years ago, not a decade. Supposedly expiring contracts are worth more now w/ the new CBA but it doesn't look like it.

They traded away Lin and Asik because they thought they could get Bosh. The whole Parsons thing was dumb. They didn't take a huge step back though, Asik barely played, Ariza isn't as good offensively (he's not bad) as Parsons but he's wayyy better defensively.

If Morey pulls any of these deals, it will be huge for Rockets fans. I'd take Rondo over Love, but any of them is amazing.

Harden is a great player, but he is a team chemistry killer.
Parsons is gonna show his skills in Dallas. He is more then prepared to play the point forward position and show creativity, not just shooting abilities.
