Re: Summer League 3: Hornets vs Knicks 4PM EST NBATV
I noticed in yesterday's game that Hairston toned down the bad shot selection since Clifford was in the audience. At least now I know that he's partial to being aware of his surroundings, because at first I thought he was a lost cause

His shot selection wasn't bad the first couple games. The main difference was he wasn't hitting the first game. He shoots a heat check more often then I would like but overall he only shoots what he can hit. He has a quick trigger but he will play smart in situations where we need to hold the ball. What he really needs to work on is putting the ball on the floor and getting to the rim.

“What I told him the other day is ‘We need to start having more meetings about his defense and shot selection and less about what he’s got to do to be a dependable player,’ ” Hornets coach Steve Clifford said a few days ago.

Say what you want, but 'shot selection' from Hairston is a issue. I already thought it, but then all I had to do was 'Google' it to see if anybody else agreed, and Clifford did, which is obviously why he took a conscious effort to tone it down like I said. I didn't even read the aforementioned article until just now

That is true for every D-league player. At UNC his shot selection was not bad. Two maybe three times in a game he would heat check but normally after hitting a few good shots. So if he hits two or three shots then takes a bad one I would not be so bad. Yes he may have gotten some slightly bad habits from the D but I did not think his shot selection was bad in the first two games. Most were good looks off screens he just rattled them out.

Clifford thought his 'shot selection' (and defense) was bad the first 2 games, and so did I. Like aforementioned though, I noticed that he took a conscious effort to dial it down some, and I can respect that

That Clifford quote is from before Summer League, and was in reference to the "incident." He was basically saying he just wanted to have more talks about his game and less about off-court stuff.
Shot selection hasn't looked great, but it's Summer League and it's all hero-ball.

Where did you find anything Clifford has said about the summer league games? I would love to hear his thoughts. The quote you had was from before they started in Vegas and was about his D-league stint and the Y issue

... yes, the article is two days old, but if you'd read it's entirety instead of what fits your narrative you'd see that particular quote comes from another article from 4 days ago (They even link the story in-line: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nb ... /12493139/).

Same quote, but originally reported prior to Summer League. So...

Nothing changes. The whole moral of it all was that Clifford think Hairston need to work on his 'shot selection', and that can't be glossed over. Clifford mentioned it on live air the other night. Hairston took heed, and calmed it down a little bit from the previous games in which Clifford wasn't in attendance. At least that's how it appeared to me. He shot only six 3-pointers opposed to 10 & 13 attempts

Re: Summer League 3: Hornets vs Knicks 4PM EST NBATV
I think you're taking the original quote out of context, but that's moot and I agree that his shot selection has been poor.
I just don't think it's necessarily a bad thing for our guys to get up as many shots as possible in a (semi-)competitive environment. God knows no one is passing the ball.

Re: Summer League 3: Hornets vs Knicks 4PM EST NBATV
MKIA, I think that people are more likely to challenge your opinion on this because many of us watched many if not most of the games Hairston played while at UNC, which is a much more disciplined environment than the D league or summer league. I do not disagree that shot selection is likely to be an issue, but I don't think you can look at his performance in the D league and summer league as strong evidence of that, given the nature of the undisciplined play that occurs in those environments. I think that is especially so for the summer league team because he is one of three players on the team that seems capable of scoring at all.
You are truly a martyr.

I find comfort in being the villain

Beforehand of actually seeing Hairston in the Hornets' environment, my indicator was already leaning towards that he may have bad shot selection based on the fact that he averaged 6.6 3-point attempts per game in only 23 minutes per game. That's a lot of hoisting

True, but I think that's largely what he was encouraged to do by Roy Williams. Reggie Bullock shot almost 6 3's per game that year as well in just 32 minutes. Roy has never been very good at creating offense for wings, so when he gets wings that can shoot threes he tends to just let them hang out on the perimeter and launch threes.
Wayne Ellington had five or more 3PTA's his last two years at UNC. Danny Green took 5 3PTA's per game his last two years in around the same minutes as Hairston. That's just how Roy rolls.

P.J. loves to shoot threes, that's for sure. If he's making half of them and he's not ignoring an open Al or Kemba and is doing it in the flow of the game, I'm cool with it.

I doubt Zeller sits since hes only played one game. Would be surprised if the other two sit as well. Id be surprised if Hairston makes the roster and isn't in the D league at this point. Nothing against him, but he isn't going to play over Henderson and Neal, not even close. I guess this team could use a 3rd string SG.
Neal is gone after this year. I would imagine PJ would be the primary backup next season
