The Basketball Guilty Pleasure Thread

Post#1 » by BleedTeal » Tue Jul 15, 2014 3:51 pm

Post things you hate to admit you love. Players, teams, games, memories, jerseys. Whatever it may be. For me, when I saw the new yellow Nuggets jerseys my wallet cried because it knew I was going to buy one. I'm also sort of a closet Blazers and Cavs fan (I'm from Cleveland, which is my only defense). And lastly, I love James Harden's beard.

Big men (basketball players) that are a bit offensively challenged with potential to get better in that area, but they really excel on the defensive end, primarily blocking shots. Coming up through the ranks, from recreational leagues, to high school, to AAU, to college, my favorite teammates always fell into this category. It's part of the reason why I favor(ed) NBA players like Joakim Noah, Serge Ibaka, Kelvin Cato, Theo Ratliff, and Bismack Biyombo (and Rudy Gobert)

That's probably one basketball-related guilty pleasure that I have

I love pass first PGs with absurd assist numbers, and I don't care if they can't score, almost to the point that I'll tolerate a worse record in exchange for flashy passing. Kendal Marshall, Rubio, Rondo. I want Kemba to put up better shooting efficiency, but if he suddenly started regularly doing full court Jason Williams style bounce passes I'd be even happier.

Heck yeah, big Brevin Knight fan.

Not a big UNC fan and never saw him anywhere else so don't consider myself an Ed Cota fan.

It's one of the best sounds in the world

My contribution is that I like guys that play a little unhinged - your Rodmans, Artests, Rasheeds, Stephensons, etc. I like that they bring an element of fear and uncertainty to the game.

I agree. I think every team that is looking to win should have a crazy guy. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone getting into a fight and elbowing people's heads off. It can just be someone with a crazy level of determination and even though we have major competitors like Kemba and MKG on this team that hustle for every second they're on the floor, they aren't going light a fire underneath our teammates to the extent of someone like Russell Westbrook and his WTF plays, and they aren't looking to get underneath the opponents skin and be a total pest like Lance Stephenson or even Joakim Noah (who isn't necessarily known as a head case). I first truly noticed that toward the end of the Miami series when I was at TWC arena for Game 3. Once Miami built up a 2-0 series lead and we were down about 15 points early in the 2nd half of Game 3, we recognized defeat and we lacked the killer instinct to attempt to get back into the game, letting Miami run up the score, and then we treated Game 4 as nothing more than a formality. Crazy guys like Lance have that never-die mentality and while he definitely wouldn't have won us the series, he'd have made it a contest and we defintiely wouldn't have been swept.
