I mean, that package sucks and while Bledsoe added to his value, I don't think he did anything that people weren't expecting him to do and he was hurt half the season.

If that is in response to me, I don't think that is a terrible package...I just don't think it is enough today, one year ago, I think it was more than enough. Largely based on Ersan's value tanking in excess of Knights increasing. I also think Bledsoe value goes up more from showing he can effectively play with another PG and be successful more than his value went down with the injury.

It's in reference to lots of posts on here.

But let me correct myself.

Bledsoe & Butler were moved for JJ Redick & Jared Dudley primarily. Had a brain fart there.

The problem is that you are going to have to "overpay" Knight as well unless you plan on dealing him before the trade deadline. Being in a contract year, and having the brain trust basically say they view him more as a SG are two very big factors that point to Knight not being the long term answer at PG.

I've seen the "overpay" Knight thing a lot...but why? He is restricted, he'll get a deal out on the market, and if we want him, we match market price.

If you are saying market price will likely be more than what you (and some others) think he is worth, that's not over paying in my opinion.

All that aside, I'll be hoping he makes another jump this year, and makes himself worth that 10-12M contract...that would mean we have a keeper, or a nice asset to trade.

Are you suggesting that we'll offer him an extension before the deadline this year? Because that is likely the only way that we retain Knight without overpaying him on the open market.

Restricted free agency was designed for that very purpose. Meaning you get the advantage of offering your guy a long term deal before he hits FA, but if you wait till the offseason, you're at the mercy of matching whatever other teams offer him.

Also, "Market value" =/= fair compensation, that is unless you think that a player like Gordon Hayward is actually "worth" the max money he will now be receiving...

I don't know why we would keep Knight and be at the mercy of the RFA market over trading him now. Unless they think he's legitimately the PG of the future and can get him at a value. I do think the minimum he gets on the open market is $8M per, and wouldn't be shocked to see someone give him like $11M. Look at what guys like Channing Frye are getting this offseason.

I'd prefer to move him now.

You're both right. Ersan and knight for Bledsoe is a terrible package. That would be the ultimate overpaying for someone. Knight is a keeper and Ersan's value is still high, despite his last year, because most NBA people know he was injured. I'd love for the Bucks to play Ersan and get his value even higher. He is one of the better stretch forwards in the entire league, when healthy. Again, undervaluing your own players is a deadly trait for a GM.

But let me correct myself.

I think Knight will get a similar deal to what Jeff Teague got last off-season.

And if they cap rises as expected in the coming years that wouldnt be a terrible deal for a solid 6th man combo guard on a contender.

4 yrs $32 mil for a "6th man" combo guard? I respectfully disagree.

For comparison's sake, Jamal Crawford is getting paid 4 yrs $21 mil

Edit: I also highly doubt that Knight will only get $8 mil per on the open market. PPGz gets you paid in the modern NBA.

I know people here hate knight but a contract similar to what Thomas just signed 4 and 27 would be a pretty fair deal if he would take it.

If the cap rises in 16 the way many are predicting is how I prefaced it. Yes $8 mil in the current market is too much but the market may be changing.

If you could get him to sign for that much, absolutely. But I highly doubt that he'd settle for that.

That being the main part. We aren't contenders. And 6th men types are available almost every single year.

Interesting how his tone has changed. First we shouldn't hold our breathe, now he is alluding to the Suns needing to play nice if Bledsoe is to come to MIL. :reporter:

Woelfel definitely has some sources throughout the NBA, but unfortunately he's such a biased turd nobody takes him seriously. If Larry and Giannis put together seasons we think they're capable of, I can't wait to watch Gery squirm... "what a meant to say is that if Larry gets his head on straight, he can be a great..." "Giannis always had the tools... he just had to hone...blah blah blah" I have no doubt Gery knows people in the know. Unfortunately he doesn't know the game of basketball

I don't see how a sign and trade could work for Bledsoe. I just don't think Ilyasova + Henson could get it done. They would probably want picks or possibly Knight. I'd like to keep Knight if possible.
