Yeah, no real reason not to put in a bid. I wonder what they would put in if they decide to do. Only one season and could be a trade asset. You can trade him after 30 days.

He's a good pick n roll player. Yes, Kieff is much better at this point, but still, one year and maybe cheap. But someone might put in a big bid (though I'm not sure who).

I thought you couldn't trade amnesty players in the first season you pick them up.

That's what I thought, but according to the article I posted you can. But this Coon article from 5 days before this says he thinks you can, but it hadn't been confirmed yet.

Their games are so different. The only similarity is that Dragic drives the baseline and dribbles around it like Nash does and I am sure he learned that from Nash. Dragic is also far different than Nash on the fast break as he looks to score himself nearly every time. That is why the Suns announcers call him the one man fast break. I really think Dragic is more like Manu Ginobili as some posters have stated earlier rather than Steve Nash.

Holy crap people, that wasn't how he was comparing them! :banghead:

I know that. Relax. I was just saying it because you can show me all the stats you want, or how they have both been the face of the franchise, or what they did at the same age, I do not care. I was just saying I think they are literally apples and oranges. Incredibly difficult to compare the two players.

Then I have no idea why we were not allowed to trade Scola for a full season. Maybe the league does hate us.

OK, scratch the articles I posted earlier....maybe originally they had considered 30 days, but they must have eventually decided on the following July 1st according to this.

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q69

and the claiming team is prohibited from trading the player until the following July 1. If the player is eventually traded, his new team becomes the claiming team.

One year - 5-8m is fine

One year.

This would allow the Suns to maximize Bledoe's Bird Rights

Wait, but can you trade Boozer or wait a year.

If you have to wait a year - don't even bother?

Suns need cap flexibility with this last signing.

He only has a year left on his contract, but you can't trade him, according to my latest link from Coon.

Forget it - they need to be able to move that contract on Feb 15 just in case the Twolves think Dragic and the Morri are good but the Suns need to take Martins contract. That's what they need - a guy on a one year expiring to absorb salary from the Twolves in the amount of 6.8m

Ugh pass on Carlos Boozer. I know it makes all the sense in the world on paper because the Suns have a desperate need for a rebounding frontcourt player and a veteran presence. But Boozer is so far past his prime and I would much rather see the Suns get someone else. Remember, he was being benched in favor of Taj Gibson almost every game. The same Taj Gibson that people think Markieff Morris is already better than. Boozer is just dead weight at this point in his career. I would honestly rather the Suns sign Shawn Marion and play a smaller lineup than have Boozer, and I cannot stand small lineups.

It is expiring. The claim is just the remainder of his contract. He would come off our books and Chicago's books completely on July 1st.

You just answered your own question. Dragic put those numbers for ONE year and couldn't lead his team to the playoffs, that is a far cry from what Steve Nash did. There is a reason the man has two MVP's.

Nash's team made the playoffs last year? :o

Maybe we should trade for Love, because he put up those great numbers and led his team to the playoffs...wait, sorry, no he didn't, he must suck then.

Did I say anything about Nash making the playoff's last year? No. Do you forget that Steve Nash was on the Suns and led us to the Western Conference finals multiple times? That is why I mentioned his two MVP's. No one is comparing a 39 year old Nash to Dragic, that is laughable.

But you are right, how stupid of me, Goran Dragic averaged 20 points a game and led the Suns to the 9th seed, he must be a superstar. Why should we go after Love, we have our franchise player in Goran Dragic, lets max him out right now! He can lead us for years, chasing that last playoff spot, that's what superstars do. Yay, I am so excited.

Anyone on this board that puts Goran Dragic in the same conversation as Steve Nash has no right to call themselves a Suns fan. :noway:

Dude, the west was ridiculously tough this year. Probably deeper than ever since the Suns had the best record for a team not in the playoffs. So i say chalk it up to bad luck.

Then the question would be if the winning bid is a total amount of the new contract, or if it is an average per year.

I think 100% of us would rather get someone else, but there really isn't anyone else, other than maybe Tolliver. Otherwise we would have to trade for someone else and lose assets.

I think part of the reason people think Boozer sucks is because he sucks for a guy making $16.8 million. If he is making $5 million that's a pretty nice value.

Say the winning bid is $5 million. The new team would pay $5 million in this final year, and Chicago would pay the other $11.8 million he is due.

The Booze cruise has sailed.

We don't need a PF who isn't athletic, can't block shots or hit 3s. There's nothing good about him on this current team...

So I was looking through the general board and I saw a thread about how Harden's lack of defense severely hurt the Rockets during FA. I always knew he was bad, but so bad that FA's wouldn't want to play with you?

And that's when I saw it....

Oh my God... If I see one more proposed trade that involves James Harden I will puke.

The team that wins the auction is responsible for Boozer's Base Compensation in an amount equal to the total dollar amount of the Partial Waiver Claim allocated over the Remaining Protected Years of Boozer's contract in proportion to the Base Compensation of each Remaining Protected Year of the contract.

We can't trade him. You can trade amnestied players the next July 1st at the earliest. I'm pretty sure the cap hit is the same as your bid, which is what you would pay him for the year.

A good example, since he was another player that only had one year left on his contract is

The waiving team continues to pay the remainder of the player's salary -- any portion that is not paid by the claiming team1. For example, the New York Knicks amnestied Chauncey Billups in 2011 with one year remaining on his contract for $14.2 million. The Los Angeles Clippers submitted the only bid, for $2,000,032. The Clippers paid Billups the amount of their bid, with the Knicks responsible for the remaining $12,199,968.
