I like this signing,
Brings good work ethic in the lockerroom,
Veteran leadership included,
Nice work from our FO.

Yeah, for equal money, I think Johnson would have given us more production on the court.

But less in the behind-the-scenes vet leadership way

Zero chance of Smith starting at small forward. It's Singler's job unless a trade happens.

Josh Smith being moved to the bench is just asking for all sorts of problems within the locker room.

So the fear of locker room squabbles should be justification for having a guy start? This is the mentality losing teams have.

Good teams say "Tough. If you can't handle it GTFO."

One of the major reasons Caron Butler signed with Pistons is Stan Van Gundy. Really likes and respects him.

$4.5M didn't hurt of course either.

They were together, of course, in Miami.

The Mavs got Richard Jefferson who had a better (or at least similar season) than Butler for the minimum ... including his veteran presence. The Wizards got Pierce for the MLE. Both very good value deals unlike Butlers deal.

I'm sure Butler would have signed on a team like Dallas for the minimum, too.

We aren't Dallas. Veterans take paycuts to go to really good teams.

I don't see why you've made this signing your personal mission, though. Its only 1 year guaranteed, there was nobody left to use cap space on, so what do we care if its overpaying? It has no long term cap implications.

Nah i guess its OK since we missed out on better targets. He fills a need and if he really can help to improve the culture here this should be just fine. Still there are teams out there using capspace better than the Pistons, thats for sure. The way back to respectability is a lot harder and longer than i would like it, the Pistons literally have to pay for that.

Eh, at worst these moves bring competition. As in nobodies playing time is guaranteed, you gotta earn it. Good locker-room presence too, which is needed.

Nothing earth shaking, but moves made to change culture. At least that's how I am looking at it

That's very true. If it's one thing we need, it's a change of culture.

That's the beauty of having SVG as coach AND president. This is a guy who put Dwight Howard on blast to the media during the the height of Dwight-mare. He doesn't suffer fools.

Surely there will be teams wanting cap space willing to drop assets to achieve that and a player such as butler who can simply be waived after being traded will help us lure teams into trading with us

Trading assets to open up cap room was so 2010. Now everyone plans well ahead and most every team already has cap room for next summer (or 2016, the real big summer).

John salmons trade where Atlanta sent williams and Nogueira?

The common theme between both those teams and signings...they're playoff teams. Until were a playoff threat on a yearly basis guys will not be lining up to play here for cheap. That's just how it goes. The Butler deal is fine and I feel will pay off in the end. Now whether that's through his play or his potential expiring contract we shall see.

NBA.com has them up under their videos section. That's all I could really find myself.
