Its obvious Porter needs a REAL primary handler next to him, but he already looks better off the bounce then Ariza in some ways. Little disappointed with the TOs but it'll get better

His handles are a work in progress but I think it's clear he's got more skill off the bounce than Ariza and has more cerebral offensive game in terms of his decision making. He's got more in his offensive toolbox than Trevor and it's only a matter of time before we begin seeing some of those things Trevor couldn't offer us as purely a 3 & D player.

Rice is a born scorer. I think he's positioning himself well for a rotation spot as a scorer on the 2nd unit.

Porter is progressing nicely and really the big takeaway is that he can stroke the corner 3.

GRJR though! Brilliant. He looks to be as good if not better a swingman as JR Smith which is 6th man of the year caliber stuff. He's fantastic Beal insurance.

J.R Smith is a good comparison hopefully sans the bs. Seems like he's becoming a little more consistent on his three-point shooting. I think PP can work with him about how to create without causing the offensive foul. He's fearless attacking the basket which is far different than Ariza, Beal, Porter and Webby. Maybe he'll be a poor man's Pierce. Very impressed though with the improvements he and Porter have made in one year.

I could see Porter being a poor man's Pierce too. Porter already has that good looking step back and he's got a heady, skill based offensive game. But I doubt he'll ever be the super aggressive go to scorer Pierce was. He's an in the flow kind of guy who isn't necessarily looking for his shot when he catches the ball.

Agreed, and his showing in SL certainly gives me more confidence in replacing Ariza.

That said, it is the nature of Wizards fans to find the cloud in every silver lining, so what happens if he does get his chance and plays well this coming year? The Wiz can extend a QO (which I'm sure they will) next summer for a little over $1M. But if someone offers him an MLE-sized deal? Do you let him walk for nothing? I don't see how they could eat into the KD cap space to keep him, much as I would want to have him around.

I really hope they can keep him on a low salary through '16 so that he can be part of the KD era.

I think the Wiz would try to lock him up long term if he proves to be worth it. They would be extra motivated to not pay Webster in '16, however.

Yeah, there was a tiny part of me that worries about retaining the services of the GRavy JaR (testing out nicknames) and part of me thinks that he can be retained for cheap if we keep his minutes low and trap him into a Nick-Young-esque contract OR super-backload the contract to coincide with when Webster comes off the books and let Webster walk.

Ultimately I thought that as good as the GRand JuRy is, he's a luxury. A fantastic swingman to come off the bench but he isn't going to replace Beal and we're already pot-committed to Porter. Letting the GRape JuiceR go would sting but as long as we have 2nd round picks (D'oh) to find the next GRJR we'll be more or less fine.

Hope both Porter and Rice can atleast get 17+ minutes next season.
