Simmons is the evolved final form of the RealGM poster. He's like a Tsherkin on steroids.

Bill Simmons gets so much hate and I've never understood why. The guy has been following the NBA since he was 6 years old and he wrote a book about the NBA that is over a thousand pages long. He has knowledge.

He's a writer who writes from a fan's perspective and doesn't hide his emotions. He's funn and makes a lot of pop culture references. He's a comedian. Yeah, a lot of times his theories are stupid and his analysis isn't the best, but he's the one who got Zach Lowe to write for him. He's someone different and the NBA might be more entertaining because of him. I appreciate him for who he is which means I don't take him seriously a lot of the time, and I criticize him a lot of the time but I'm still a fan.

I'm reading his book right now and I can't put it down. I find it hilarious and informative at the same time.

I believe his idea was to (1) fight for the last seed and (2) discourage tanking/teams giving away good players to save cap space.

That seeds 8th and down will compete in a tournament for the last playoff spot. But to sweeten the deal (since that teamw will probably have a quick exit anyway), the higher you finish the better your chances of winning the lottery.

The only downside is that truly miserable teams will find it harder to improve, but I find that a lot of the bottom feeders self sabotage themselves anyway.

Can't remember the last time I read an article of his where he didn't take a cheap shot at the Wolves. You didn't get the job! Get over it.

+1.

He's an entertainer more than a pure analyst, and he's damn good at what he does. All the hate on this thread is funny. He's not the same as "some message board guy" because his writing and comedic abilities are in another galaxy compared to guys on internet message boards. And that's why he was a job at ESPN, and these jokers don't, not because he "got lucky" (as if we should hate him for that anyway).

I don't think you have to really be a tough guy to be able to take Bill Simmons :loll: That's like beating up Mike Greenberg.

Anyway, I'm not a big fan. I wouldn't even give him much credit for his knowledge on the "history" of the game, as all he really knows is who was a good player, and who wasn't. I guess he knows more names than the average fan who doesn't discuss the 1960-1980 NBA, but I wouldn't say he's an expert on analysis there either.

His whiny voice and creepy mannerisms and facial expressions don't play well on TV but I still love his podcast

He takes cheap shots at every team that does dumb things - he's taken plenty at Joe Dumars, even after he resigned, and it was deserved. Same with the T-Wolves who have made as many bonehead moves over the years as anyone IMO. It has nothing to do with his fake-campaign to get a GM job...

Exactly, I don't understand the Simmons hate either. I think he's hilarious and I think it's great we have a knowledgeable NBA fan commentating. Even though he's kind of biased sometimes, he's alot more entertaining than some of the cookie cutter NBA commentators.

If Bill Simmons has that much influence, then can he eliminate the 7th/8th seeds, stop teams from having 10 million uniforms, no more teams wearing road jerseys at home, and reduce the season length by 10 games or so?

I don't trust you - I've read pretty much every article he's written as a non-T-Wolves fan who doesn't take a random writer's insults personally even if directed at the team I root for. Others seem to not understand he is just another opinionated fan of the league whose value is for providing entertaining NBA articles beyond just dryly reporting the facts like every other writer does.
