The difference is Bennett has an advantage over Thompson because he's a better fit in the offense, and with Lebron and Varajeo and possibly Wiggins that covers up for what more he needs to work on on defense.

I'm not really sure how Bennett can fit into a role. He is undersized for the 4 and too slow for the 3. He likes the 3 ball but I'm not sure Lebron would be okay with him launching it from behind the arc. When I see him shoot the 3 I'm almost expecting him to miss. I liked last night vs. the sixers where he missed one and swung the ball on the second. He needs to learn to go inside after a miss or swing the ball. If you have consecutive misses then that wreaks havoc on confidence. I'm watching b/c he's Canadian, same goes for Wiggins. Not sure how Wiggins and Bennett develop with Lebron in the fold. Lebron will demand the ball a lot. Same goes for Kyrie. If a team shoots 80 fg per game and Lebron and Kyrie take up more then half your fg attempts then where does that leave the young guys. If Lebron can make the young guys better then fine but I have my doubts.

and second and third year players, hell even derrick Williams is still playing summer league. but since you're trying to make an (god awful) point I guess we should just cut wiggins then since he can only shoot 1/8 from 3 and 3/11 on FG in a game vs Rookies I cant see him making a shot in the NBA, what a mega-bust

I like the new look Anthony Bennett. So, can we get a rim protector now? Someone like Kevin Seraphin will be nice. :D

Bennett should definitely not start unless they are going to try and showcase him for a trade.

Your right abou bennett but oh so wrong in your acessment of delly. He will be one of the best back up pgs in the nba this season. I litterally have no idea where you get the idea he cant or doesnt pass the ball, even if you watched the cavs a little bit last season youd know how wrong a statment that is. Ill assume for the sake of argument the only time you have seen him play is summer league, even then there is a reason ever hall of fame color comentator they have had on has praised the kids play. If you wanna complain about something with him complain about his streaky shooting, thats a ligit area of concern.

Delly is actually a pretty good ballhandler. He takes good care of the rock. He has a good J. If only he can be more aggressive attacking the rim and shooting off the dribble, I will be even happier.

However, given we will probably be signing a veteran PG such as Mo Williams to back-up Irving, Delly probably won't see much burn this Season.

I'd like to think with Irving, Waiters, Wiggins, and Delly that Delly can play 15 solid minutes a game. I'd prefer to grab a cheaper PG to play garbage time personally. Delly has impressed me with his hustle and his knowledge of the game.

Personally I'd love the Cav's to give Aaron Craft a chance, he'd be a great fit for a low minutes man.

Bennett hasn't looked that good shooting 3's so far, but his long 2's have been good. Defenses will cheat off him on drives or in the P&P, so he should have plenty of opportunities to take that J or drive to the hoop.

He's short for a PF, but he has more than adequate wingspan, reach, and girth to play the position AND a speed advantage over most opposing PFs. PF is an easy fit for him, but he needs to keep working on his footwork, low-post and high-post games.

Actually I don't mind him starting. Starting doesn't necessarily mean you're the best player--- this isn't jv basketball.

It's a 48 minute game. Lebron and Kyrie will dominate the 1st team and need complimentary players. How great would it be to have a 2nd unit featuring Waiters, Mike Miller, and Thompson where waiters can dominate the ball and distribute?

Irving/Dellavedova
Wiggins/Waiters
James/Miller
Bennett/Thompson
Varejao/Hopefully somebody who can play defense

We'd have the same firepower in our first unit and have one of the best 2nd units in the league.

Patience is key with this kid. He can be special one day. Really wish we could trade Monroe for him.

I think he looked really good in the summerleague when i saw him. As people said here he needs to be in better shape. He is a 3/4 tweener like a Wilson Chandler/Thad Young type of player. I think Bennet has the potential to be a pretty good 2 way player.

He looks to be in better shape as to last year he looked kind of soft. If he stays, the pressure will be off him and he can be play in a role that will get the best out of him. He should be your 6 man.

He looked alright in SL but I think he has asthma and it shows. He's also out of shape partly because of it and barely has any stamina in him. I think he's better off as a trading block tbh

Is he the second coming of Derrick Williams? Tweener that shows flashes every 5-7 games, but then wanders around like a zombie the rest of the time?

Ya, Bennett is mystery to me. He was definitely a reach at #1, and he had a horrible season (yes, I understand he has asthma and other medical problems, but that doesn't fully account for how truly terrible he was), but he does seem like he could be a solid player. With a hard work ethic (no more lazy screens and sitting at the 3pt line) a decent coach, and playing time, I think he can develop into something useful. Maybe a borderline starter (doubtful in my opinion), but probably a good role player?

Edit: Oladipo was by far the best player to me. Cavs wouldn't have to worry so much about that perimeter defense if they had drafted him.

I don't think Bennett is a starter in the NBA unless he can hit a consistent three point shot.

Bennett had a horrible rookie season, but a lot of what is being said here is people rehashing incorrect info. Bennett isn't undersized, with his long arms his standing reach is fine for a PF. His shoulders are very wide, meaning he is plenty strong. He played some C last year and was plenty strong enough to hold his position and not get pushed around, stronger than Andy and Zeller in fact.
The people saying he needs to improve his three pointers are off base. Of course improving three point shooting helps any player, however, Bennett needs to get in the low post and use his strength, quickness and long arms to his advantage. Too often he would hang out at the three point line and chuck a three as soon as he got the ball. I know the traditional PFs are not in vogue, but he has all the tools to score in the low post if he wants to.
He isn't a bad ball handler for his size, but he lacked confidence last season and rarely put the ball on the floor, and when he did, he didn't finish well. Again mostly due to a lack of confidence, and trying to do everything way too fast and not letting things come to him.
He may never reach his potential, and I agree going first was a reach, but with patience whatever team he ends up on may be getting a pretty good starting PF. If any team thinks he can be a SF they will be severely disappointed imo.
