Big "IF" on NBA Draft 2014

Let's take a break from free agency i think about this for a minute.

If Cavaliers (I hate them!) didn't jump in NBA Draft Lottery and that we had our 8th pick in this years draft and than we draft Doug McDermott and trade him for 16th and 19th pick to Bulls which guys would you pick?

For me I would go with:
16th pick: Tyler Ennis - because he is pass first PG and would be good upgrade on Jennings
19th pick: Gary Harris or Rodney Hood because scoring from wing, even more on Hood because he is SF.
Another guy what would I pick is maybe James Young.

I wouldnt trade Doug McDermott for those two guys. McBuckets looks pretty bad ass so far in the summer league, He dropped 45 pts the other night.

McDermott can really play. He was dropping a lot of catch and shoot shots and that's a special talent to have in the NBA. Lots of players have made a career through that play alone.

I'd actually would want the Pistons to take Nurkić, and Harris just like the Nuggets did. I'm not a huge fan of trading back for multiple picks though.

McBuckets has looked damn lethal in the SL and I respect Chicago's talent assessment greatly when it comes to the draft. Also trading to 16 and 19 from #8 is too steep of a drop IMO - I would have wanted to draft Elfrid Payton. If we're talking about knowing what we know now I'd probably take Bruno Caboclo - kid is raw, but has flashes of brilliance there as well.

I wonder if Stauskas would have been available at 8 if the kings picked 7th. I guess we'll never know :lol:

I wouldn't trade back from 8 to 16 and 19. Noah Vonleh has been foul prone and his offensive game has taken a little to show after a poor debut but I still maintain we lost our pf of the future in that guy

McBuckets is feasting in SL right now.

He's going to a gooooood shooter for a long time if he keeps this up. Kid's not afraid.

Hard to say.

Nurcic has some really big hype surrounding him as a potential Pek or Cousins type player, but he's redundant at C and I hate Euro Cs ever since the Darko pick. I can't really evaluate foreign prospects so I have no clue if he's really that good.

Advanced stats say to go for Jordan Adams but he'd be redundant with KCP.

I like Kyle Anderson but I think that he's a 4 in this league and we already have too many PFs.

Stokes is a guy I like and stats like, but he's again redundant at PF.

I'm convinced that McGary will pan out if healthy, but again, we don't need a big. I'd probably take him over Stokes, if I'm being honest with myself. He is a Michigan Man after all.

Among the wings, I have a soft spot for McDaniels but I'm not really convinced that he'll be a good player because every part of his offensive game besides getting offensive rebounds is sub-par for a wing and while he's a great shot-blocker it isn't like he's a lock-down defender right now, plus he's small for a SF and not that fast.

Ingles is another defensive SF prospect with basically the same questions as McDaniels. Plus, I can't tell if a Euro guy is actually good, I just don't have enough info to be really confident.

If I hadn't known that he'd fall to us, I probably would have drafted Dinwiddie with our 19th pick. I was quite high on him.

I'd go with some combination of Adams/Ingles/McDaniels+Anderson/Stokes/McGary/Nurcic.

I think McDermott would have been a wise choice at the time. Him or Stauskas

Based on what we've seen from SVG since free agency started I doubt he trades back and instead picks the best shooter

KEEP Doug McDermott or trade for Tyler Ennis and Rodney Hood or trade for Tyler Ennis and Shabazz Napier then trade Shabazz to Miami for whatever package Charlotte got.
I have no idea who I would've taken with the Miami pick if the 3rd part of my run-on sentence happened.

I would have taken Zach Lavine, I love that kid.

If Detroit took McBuckets and traded back and everything went the way that it did, I would go with:
James Young and Shabazz Napier.

Young has good size and athleticism, a nice developing jump shot stroke (apparently changed mid season to quicken it up). Would look nice next to KCP, allowing them to mix and match defense matchups.
Shabazz's tourny run made me fall in love with the kid, it felt like he was in total control. Love his pick and roll/pop game, think he can be a leader.

the way the draft played out, i have no problem at all that it was this year that we lost the pick. The guys available at #8 really don't excite me as a franchise changing player. Stauskas the most likely of them all to be a starter in the league for a long time, but im not sold on him either. Especially since im perfectly happy to have KCP as the starter, and see how we go season. It also creates the possibility to trade it if the right offer comes up.

Most importantly, this season we could improve with cap space. Because of a likely new large contract to monroe, and then drummond, if we lost the pick next season instead, we would have almost nothing to improve the team with since we would be over the cap and without a draft pick. Creating better balance to roster turnover which is much easier for coaches and the core players to manage.

Given those two picks, I'll go completely homer and say Harris and McGary. Both are very skilled all-around players who should have gone higher.

For the record, I like McDermott a lot and advocated him at #8 over guys like Stauskas, Harris, etc.

I too would've taken Lavine. Maybe not the best shooter in the draft, but he can definitely shoot the ball and he's got as much potential as anyone in this draft.
