The Kings still want Josh Smith, Pistons/Blazers talked S/T

Post#1 » by Sheeeeed » Thu Jul 17, 2014 5:40 am

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11226217/detroit-pistons-sacramento-kings-resume-josh-smith-trade-talk

Sources told ESPN.com that the Kings have continued to express interest in Smith and the parties are on the hunt for a third team to could help facilitate the deal. As ESPN.com reported last month, Detroit and Sacramento have engaged in trade discussions that would potentially land Smith in the same frontcourt with DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay. Initial talks called for Sacramento to send Jason Thompson and either Derrick Williams or Jason Terry to the Pistons for Smith, but those discussions reached an impasse and were pushed into July along with the rest of both teams' free-agent business, sources said.

Sources said the Pistons also seriously discussed various sign-and-trade scenarios this month that would have landed restricted free agent Greg Monroe in Portland, but the Blazers ultimately pulled themselves out of the race for Monroe by signing free-agent big man Chris Kaman to join Robin Lopez in the Blazers' center rotation.

Sending out Smith without having to take back a toxic asset would be a big win. Hope they can find a third team to make something happen.

It would be a dream off season to trade smith after all the moves we already made, then we can sign moose and be done with that.

Its good to hear we're looking to involve a 3rd team as that means we have a chance of getting more than just the Kings garbage.

If we could somehow get Boston involved and get Jeff Green that would be a fair deal.

If SVG truly wants to convince Monroe to resign, trading his enemy (Smith) for his best friend (Green) would certainly help Stan's cause.

Though considering the article also says we were in serious trade talks with Portland for Monroe, I'm not sure how bad Stan really wants to keep him. It sounds like he just wants one of them gone and doesn't care which one it is, whichever gets him the best package in return.

Of course it could mean he's trying to trade both and just start over too. I'm just glad to know we are being active trying to sort out the frontcourt, whatever the outcome, instead of these weeks of silence.

Are you guys under the cap space? I just want to know what asset we could get for Green?

We only have like 1-2 mil in space right now. We could get 10 mil more if we let Monroe walk. Though not likely.

Anyways, I worked out this 3 way in the trade machine and its successful. You get McLemore and your choice of Landry or Thompsons contract to match salary. Pistons get Green. Kings get Smith.

I think that we still have a bit of cap space, but not that much.

Unfortunately we don't have a ton of assets to give. KCP is probably essentially off-limits as our SG of the future, since Meeks is just a bench player. Monroe is worth more than Green. Drummond is obviously a no-go. What do we have that you want?

On the topic of possibly moving Smith...

Looks like SVG is looking to dump Smith OR Monroe, which ever deal is better.

Or a starting PG. If it's Monroe I want a starting PG or starting SF in return. If it's Smith, I'll take a smaller bad contract and spare parts.

I think we already knew that there had at least been surface level discussions with Portland about a possible sign and trade, and we also already understood that the signing of Kaman effectively killed whatever talks there were.

I certainly hope Smith to the Kings is still a possibility, though.

If it's a 3 way I wouldn't mind getting Ilyasova from the Bucks. Would slot in well as a 3rd big, which we will need if Smith is gone. They could throw in Delfino too, although he would hardly be a solution to our small forward problem.

why wouldn't we just cut Boston out of that and take McLemore for ourselves?? I understand we already have 2 shooting guards and a need at the 3 but I'd much rather have McLemore over Green.
