Emeka Okafor
I do not see his name being thrown around too much related to the Cavs but I think it would be a great if he will sign for our remaining $2.5m of cap space.
Biggest negative is he is coming off of a neck surgery (herniated disc) but he played nearly a full season with Washington in 2012-2013 recording a solid PER of 15.8 with a little over 9 points and 8 rebounds a game clocking 26 mpg.
Has there been any update on him?

Possible No. 1 pick Dwight Howard on his changing fortunes: “I went from an ’84 Crown Victoria that only goes up to 84 miles an hour to a new BMW that goes up to 160.” Wow. You can almost hear the Orlando front office screaming, “Change of plans! Change of plans! Get Okafor on the phone!”
oh Dwight.

Trade waiters for a solid rim defender if you have to.
Sign Okafor as a last ditch resort that I would not complain about.

Here's what I don't think people appreciate - Waiters only makes $4 million per year. You aren't getting a solid rim defender/protector for $4 million. Just like you aren't getting a solid big for $4 million per year. The Cavs are capped out for the first time in four years. They can't just trade a single player on a rookie contract for another good player. They can't take back more salary than they give out.

You also need a 3rd ball handler/facilitator. If LB or Kyrie is hurt/on the bench - Dion is a great guy to run the offense. Too many times in CLE did i watch the stanky leg Lebron offense. Cannot do it any longer.

Yeah I have little to no interest in trading Dion (the little part is for a guy who's initials are K.L.). My point was more that Cavs posters need to get their minds around the fact that the days were we can take back a lot more salary in a trade are over.

Every few months, a new concept about what we need pops up and people beat it to death, repeating the same buzzwords over and over until they have no meaning.
I swear-- if I see or hear the term "rim protector" one more time in going crazy. We don't need a damn "rim protector" whatever that is. We need a backup center who can hold his own for 20-25 minutes. That's it--- quit making it something bigger than that.

Forgive me for pointing out this flaw in your argument but where did I say trade Dion alone? We also have draft picks, and other parts like Haywood's contract we can move, work with me here.
Here's my reason: He doesn't fit this offense anymore. We don't need 3 chuckers at the expense of a big who can control the floor and dare I say, have a post game. Think differently? Go ahead, but regale me of all the times run TMC won a title....oh yeah, never.

Rim protector, post game, space hog, lane general.....I don't care what you call it, we need one.

David Blatt does not even know what offense he is going to run. So how would you know? And who is this big we are trading for that can spread the floor and has a good post game?

I don't care if Blatt runs the damn picket fence we aren't winning a title with 3 power forwards and the remnants of Brendan Haywood bud. See the Spurs? Yeah, who's stopping Duncan on our team right now?
Not a big deal? Ask Miami about it.
Bosh is 5 times the player Bennett, Andy, or Thompson are and he basically did nothing against the spurs because they had no support in the post.
Spurs old? Same thing applies for Golden State, Oklahoma City, The Clippers, and Houston.
We can't beat them as currently constructed, and if you think this revamped Anthony Bennett summer league edition is our savior, you're incorrect.
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Draft picks don't mean anything with respect to cap space and Haywood only makes $2 million this year. Plus the Cavs have long term plans with respect to Haywood's contract. There is no flaw in my argument.
Dion's FG % and 3 p% were higher than Kyrie's last year. He's not a chucker. He has a great handle, he can break his man down off the dribble at will, he gets assists and his defense is considerably better than either of the two guys we just signed.
I don't disagree that the Cavs could use a really good center. They just aren't going to get one for $5-7 million per. They are going to have to take a flyer on a guy for a low salary (like the guy who just signed with the Lakers).

I'd take a mid-tier center over Dion as this team is currently constructed. And mind you I LIKE Dion a lot but we don't need 2 short guards trying to match up with the west's powerhouse teams. If Dion is okay with being a 6th man getting 30 minutes off the bench backing up the 1 and 2, that's awesome. But he seems uninterested.
Wiggins can guard any 2 in the league right now, and he'll only get better and THAT"S scary. We don't need 20 points a game out of the SG position, we need a +3 steals to turnover ratio and a block a game. We need to prevent other teams 2's from coming into our paint. Imagine Lebron getting to take it a bit easy on defense (he is 30) by sliding Wiggins over to Durant and letting Bron cover someone else? The idea alone makes me salivate.
by the way, good debate buddy I like this back and forth. Educated Cav's fans are the best!

A few thoughts - whether it's Kyrie, Dion or both of them - they had better get used to playing off the ball and running set plays. Between LBJ and Blatt, the SportsCenter highlight days are over. Unlike Brown who was afraid to sit his "star," Blatt will have no such fear and he has a much bigger star. More importantly, LBJ isn't going to tolerate much 1-on-3 hero ball from either guard.
Wiggins is a turnover machine right now. He's not ready to start at the 2 (I really don't see him as a 2). His handle isn't there and he struggles passing the ball. If you trade Dion and Wiggins isn't working out as a starter, you have no recourse.
Finally, you aren't getting a mid-tier center for $5-7 million. You are getting another back up. You could call Memphis about Koufos but that's what you can expect to get.

Mind you when I say "2" he's really a hybrid 3. Lebron pretty much decides each play whether he wants to be a 1-5 and they will run plays around him, I totally agree.
I'd move Waiters, Bennett (get him while he's hot) and whomever for a 5. But the one they are worth (no older than 28, decent at all facets of the game) doesn't exist at a price level below 15 million I agree. Centers are a hot commodity anymore, just aren't alot of them.
BTW the death of the 25 dribble to 22 foot jumper days of Kyrie being gone don't hurt my feelings one bit!

Man I wish I still had a link to the youtube of the Kyrie/Dion beef days where Irving was dribbling like crazy asking for space and Dion essentially functioned as a sixth defender by getting in his path twice.....that was so bad it was funny.
I remember watching it in person with my girl and my son and some guy a few rows behind us screaming "THANKS FOR THE OFFENSIVE PROWESS MIKE BROWN" making me spill my beer.....ha ha.

How many times did you watch Kyrie freeze Dion out of the play? Look, all of that nonsense is over. LBJ isn't going to have it and neither is Blatt.

Sign Okafor and Jermaine O'Neal.
Give Waiters and Bennett the second unit scoring load.
Irving/Delladova
Wiggins/Waiters
Lebron/Miller
Thompson/Bennett
Varejao/Okafor/O'Neal
You are probably then one shooter and one veteran guard away from being genuine title contenders. No need for Love.
