Hornets Championship Chances

Post#1 » by HornetShocker » Thu Jul 17, 2014 11:24 pm

Can this team beat the Easts best teams?
Why not?
Discuss...

My number 1 thing would be the young players playing aggressive. The talent is there to do it.

I know that we just signed Lance Stephenson and all, but let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet.

I'm not quite ready to say no until I see us play against the top competition. It will take for a lot of our players to progress but it's possible. I think we'll be better than the Lebron Cavs unless they trade for K-Love and even then still I'm naive enough to believe unless they smack us around during the season.

I love that quote, pulp and all. But is there a reason why? This team was 4th in points allowed. We must be on par or better with this offseason. Scoring is much improved. Stephenson adds an edge to this team. I don't think we will shock the world but this team has incredible upside. Cho is awesome so far. I love the risks and the picks to cover that risk. For the record I think Vonleh will definitely make an impact this season. He's too talented to D league.

Should try to win a playoff game before worrying about anything else.

Definitely, thankfully that should happen this year. It's insane to think about it, but the Bobcats as a franchise never won a single playoff game, lol. That name truly was cursed.

I am really looking forward to this season. I think we're going to surprise some people and earn a lot of respect around the league and among fans, it's going to be a fun season.

No.

We don't have quality depth. We have a lot of depth, but just not quality.

We still don't shoot well enough from the outside.

Not many conference champions have a really weak position like we do at PF.

We still don't have that guy at the end of the game to just go and get us 6-8 points when we need it. Lance isn't trustworthy enough right now, Kemba can't shoot well enough for us, and I typically don't like going into the post to a guy like Al to get that. Offense bogs down too much when you do that.

Teams don't go from zero playoff wins to making the Finals. Look at the Wizards this year, they were better than the Pacers, but just didn't have that experience. We don't have that experience.

What we do have is:

youth, to eventually get us there in the future

a strong core of guys who have a winning pedigree in the past, and a strong locker room

we have a STOUT defense

we have a very good coach that is just going to get better.

We won't get there this year, but if we continue to improve like we have, I wouldn't be surprised if we made a run there in the next 3 years.

I'd be really happy with simply making it to the 2nd round this year. That's as high as my dreams for this team go next season.

Yes we are a championship contender, I don't think we could beat the team out west, but we could most definitely make it out the east if the team gels, Zeller or Noah becoming a playoff level starter and Big al stays healthy during the playoffs.

There is no team in the east that can stop Big AL, and our team defense will crush any teams offense out east.

I'm actually not scared at all of Cleveland as currently constructed. Big Al would eat the living daylights out of that lineup, LeBron would probably have to guard him. Stephenson is too much for Wiggins/Waiters (the ladder being quite funny watching him trying to guard Lance, again LeBron would have to guard him). And while Kemba has struggled on Kyrie we are a much better team than the last few years. It would be a fantastic series.

Chicago scares me. McDermott is the real deal. And even if he isn't they just have more depth.

Indiana, I would love to play and beat them in a 7 game series. Id give us an 80 percent chance actually.

Atlanta would be really tough. I don't know if we could beat them honestly in a series. Avoid at all costs.

Miami still has huge gaping vagina holes, so jury is still out. However Wade couldn't do anything against Lance, and MKG matches up well with Deng.

Toronto isn't scary at all. We can lock down their wings fairly easily and again Big Al would dominate.

Everyone is salivating on the Wizards, but they can only improve internally for the next few years. I'm just not really scared of that lineup, like when we beat them last season, and they basically are bringing the same team back. Ariza > Pierce. Gortat isn't going to improve any more and has peaked. Its possible Beal could blow up, but I'd bet on Lance before Beal. Lance wants it really bad. I don't get that impression from Beal, I think he's just along for the ride.

New York Knicks (who people have above the Hornets) is a laugh. They literally have no PF/C. And their starting PG, while good, also plays terrible defense. I don't know how they win 40 games, they just have no defense and so many holes.

Brooklyn is done. Need to rebuild. They lost their best playmaker (Shaun) and best vet presence (Pierce). Won't make playoffs, Cleveland takes their spot.

Detroit is interesting if they get rid of Smith, but I feel they are too raw and don't have a player than can make a big impact (Al Jefferson) like we did last season.

Boston is a mishmash of young talent that won't win 30 games. Like the Lakers, they are taking for Okafor.

Milwaukee probably won't do much of anything in Parker's rookie year. He hasn't seperated himself in summer league.

Only a matter of time before Cleveland trades Wiggins for Love though, and he would pose some serious problems for us.

Im most scared of Chicago and Atlanta right now, Chicago because of their depth and Atlanta because they always beat us. Cleveland jumps up there if they get Love but if they dont i think we can take them.

if cleveland gets love they will go to the finals for the next 4 years. you just knew lebron wasnt going to try and win with those youngsters. he made it all of 5 days before he started publicly asking for more all-stars to play next to him. i really wanted to see if lebron had the courage, leadership and patience to mold those young guys into a finals team. next thing you know, kyrie will get traded for chris paul, waiters, bennett and a #1 for marc gasol, tristan thompson for kevin garnett and sign ray allen.

Kemba and Lance are afraid of no one, we're going to beat the crap out of Atlanta this year.

And none of this would have happened if the Cavs would not have miraculously landed Wiggins. Cavs fans have been having a pity party for 4 years, and now they have hit the jack pot.

I will laugh my ass off if they trade Wiggins for Love as a rental while Love doesn't commit long term. Lebron opts out next year with his player option, Love leaves. Please make it happen.
