Trade Ideas - Part 2

I asked this on the GB, but can't the Cavs just sign Love next year out right? With varajeo coming off the books, couldnt they can dump 2 of Thompson/Bennet/Waiters and have enough cap space to sign him to a max? You'd only have Lebron/Kyrie/Wiggins/Waiters+ a few min capholds, right? And that comes out to what, 47 mil, and with the growing cap, they'd have enough to just sign Love and not trade Wiggins at all.

Kyrie extension kicks in next year so that eats up AV's salary. A year from now, they will have other options for a S&T but it will be difficult for the Cavs to just clear $17 million in cap space. Of course, a year from now Minny will be much more reasonable in their asking price.

But the only players they'll have on the books are Lebron/Irving/Wiggins/bennet, they can just decline options on Waiters/Thompson and waive haywood. They'll have a few min capholds, but all together

Lebron-20 mil
Irving-17 mil
Wiggins-6
Bennet-6

= 49

That leaves at min, 14 mil in capspace, and with the growing cap, likely enough to sign Love outright. At worst, you can just trade Bennet to a team under the cap. Either way, the trade comes out to Waiters/Thompson and maybe Bennet for Love.

If we are having to renounce all the players we would end up trading, I fail to see the point. We save picks and Wiggins I guess. I also wouldn't renounce all those guys unless I was 100% sure Love was signing here.

Wiggins is still a possibility if LeBron tells the Cavs "Get me Love." What LeBron wants, LeBron gets. That's what Wolves are counting on.

There are no reliable sources right now, so no one has any idea of what's really going on. Remember the reporting about LeBron's meeting with Wade and Bosh? For a week we were told that they were scheming about contracts and pay cuts - turns out they were just having lunch as friends and didn't even talk about basketball.

The point would be the Cavs shedding the players they want to instead of giving up the players they might have to.

Should the Cavs try to get Love without having to give up Wiggins? Absoutley. They would be stupid not to. Might as well see if you can get Flip to bite on any other option.

Every road the Cavs go down has risk.

Trade Love for Wiggins now , and win a title or couple. Risk being that if Wiggins develops into a top 5 player very quickly, and the Love-Cavs never gets to the promise land.

Wait for Love at the trade deadline, and hopefully you can get him for cheap. Risk being if the Cavs get a major injury problems and lose their assets or fall out of the race, or some other team comes in with a better offer.

Keep Wiggins. He develops quickly into Lebrons Pippen-like sidekick, and the Cavs are set for the future. Risk being if he either never develops into the player the Cavs need, or develops too late in the Lebron title window.

The goal is to win a title. Trading Love for Wiggins right now (in my opinion, not my fact) might present the least amount of upside, but I would also say it presents the least amount of risk

It's an awesome outcome if everything comes together. But it's a super high risk that has to have a lot of things go its way if it comes to fruition

Same reason why the draft and FA period was in some ways more exciting and talked about then the Spurs winning the title. The thought and speculation of what a team's potential could be is sometimes more fun then the actual result.

I do not disagree at all. It's fun, but only if there is no antagonizing involved. I do not like to report or suspend people so just watch it.

Problem is the cap penalties became much more severe halfway through Miami's run (hence the miller amnesty).

With the new cba, it is nearly impossible to have 3 max guys

They didn't have to get rid of Miller. Maybe it would of prevented them from getting Oden and Beas. Considering those two contributed 0 to the team, I'd say they should of just kept Miller

Haslem should have been the odd man out instead if all they care about is threepeat.
