The NBA issued new projections for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 salary cap and luxury tax thresholds. The 2014-15 salary cap is now projected to be $63.2 million and the tax level is projected to be $77.0 million. The numbers for 2015-16 are now projected to be $66.5 million and $81.0 million, respectively.

It went up 5 million this year. That's 7.7% increase, usually it's around 4.5%. If we use the 4.5% average it's about 65.8 million. Giving us around 15-16 million in cap space (this includes our 2015 1st, Bebe, Bruno). We could also trade JJ if we needed to, gaining more room. Using the above projections we would have 16-17 million in space.

It went up 5 million this year. That's 7.7% increase, usually it's around 4.5%. Let's say it stays at 63 we would have about 13-14 million to spend. If it goes up obviously that number goes higher. If we use the 4.5% average it's about 65.8 million. Giving us around 15-16 million in cap space (this includes our 2015 1st, Bebe, Bruno). We could also trade JJ if we needed to, gaining more room. Using CBS projections we would have 16-17 million in space.

Depending on what we do with Amir we could have another 7mill as well. Do these numbers include the expiring contract of Hamsbrough?

That number is WITHOUT Amir. It includes: Lowry, Demar, JV, Ross, Patterson, Bebe, Bruno, Vasquez, J.Johnson, 2015 1st round pick. I think the idea would be to go after a upgrade at PF (Millsap, Love, Aldridge, etc are free agents)

Wow! Jackpot! Or make that, BLATCHE-pot!!

That's one helluva nice loophole in the CBA. A guy is so undesirable that a team amnesties him, i.e. they pay him to LEAVE, and then he can get a SECOND salary from another team desperate enough to take on him and his baggage. Wow. God bless North America and the (sort of) free labor/labour market.

Its not really a loophole.

Wow. "Loophole" in the figurative sense, like we use it to mean "cool way to get extra cake" or advantages. Not something for lawyers or accountants to exploit. But it's great to know we've got semantics covered. LOL

As to 2016, that's gonna be a CRAZY off-season. First time the salary cap has really ballooned, and maybe the first time that it's actually fair and appropriate. The players are both employees AND product, so it's unlike other industries, and employer/owner and employee relations are obviously different too. Players definitely need to get a better share of the cake, though the owners and business-slanted media will try to paint the players as greedy and unreasonable and maybe somehow anti free enterprise LOL

If the cap is really going to 75-80M that will probably give EVERY team in the league the room to sign at least one max player. Though what's the max going to be? 30M? 35M? Some teams are going to give a ton of money to guys that are going to backfire. On the surface it'll seem like it makes GM's lives easier, but it's really going to create a lot of pressure to make the "right" max signing. What's Brooklyn's or the Lakers' payroll going to look like?!!! 3 guys making a combined 90M?

A big spender could add a starting lineup of All-NBA and All-star guys.
Free agents include: Durant, Anthony Davis RFA, Love (maybe), Noah, Horford, Lillard RFA, Ryan Anderson, Batum RFA, Dwight Howard, Brook Lopez, and the Greek Freak RFA, who might be a budding Durant at that point.

I won’t count Lebron, because I think he’s in Cleveland for the duration.

doh....I dunno what happened but there was more to that post.

Was basically saying that its more like "last refuge of the damned". To clear waivers after an amnesty means that nobody was even willing to bid the league minimum for your services.
The absurd mystery of the strange forces of existence.

We are right up against the tax now. All 3 combined make $17mill, so we'd be well below the tax, but still have very little cap room. Certainly not enough to sign a big name FA or a max player.

Think he's talking about next year when they expire. We should have max space next summer.

There are other details that have changed:

Caboclo earn 1.2 million and Nogueira (if part of the Roster) will earn 1.4 million.

Sham has Bruno at 1.4. I will stick with that until he says otherwise, much more reliable than hoopshype.

Hoopshype is terrible (i agree), but Basketball-Reference is very good, it's a very detailed website.

For advanced stats it's a great site. For salary information? I'd rather use Sham. Appreciate you looking for updates though.

No prob.
At this point, however, doesn't change anything, we have to see if Nogueira will be part of the roster or not.
Without him, the adding of Blatche would be very likely, and we could also add a cheap player as third PG (Mack, McCalebb, Marshall).

I would like very much Mike Scott, is a great athlete, not less than Blatche. He can accept 1 million.

Yeah, looks like Basketball Ref is just using the rookie scale cap hit as an indicator for their starting salaries. Bruno signed for 120% of that amount ($1.2M × 1.2 = $1.4M)

Not sure if I would give Bruno the extra 200 K he is strictly a development project far away from being a starter. He will spend most of the time in D league. Bebe on the other hand merits it because it helps his buyout.

Not being cheap but 1.2 million is pretty good for a 18 yo.

Very roughly I project us at 50 million for next summer. That includes

- Vasquez
- Bruno
- 2015 1st RD Pick

If you look at the above projections that would leave us with 15.8 million in cap space.

I wonder what types of contacts Amir and Lou would command on the open market.

Judging by what guys like Hill & Young got id say they would command quite a bit.

Personally I'd go after Millsap and let both walk. Draft a PG/SG with your 2015 1st

It would also be interesting to see what kind of value he has, but much like Lowry he might be looking for a payday after signing a lower deal this time around.

Wow Phoenix is going to be good for a long time, just like the Raptors should be. They can easily afford to sign Dragic for the MAX and still be spending much less than we are.
