UFC Fight Night 46 (7/19, Ireland): McGregor v. Brandao (FP)

Post#1 » by CPT » Sat Jun 7, 2014 2:24 pm

Conor McGregor vs. Diego Brandao
Zak Cummings vs. Gunnar Nelson
Ian McCall vs. Brad Pickett
Ilir Latifi vs. Tom Lawlor
Cody Donovan vs. Nikita Krylov
Phil Harris vs. Neil Seery
Trevor Smith vs. Tor Troeng
Naoyuki Kotani vs. Norman Parke

Top 3 fights are pretty good for an international fight pass event, especially considering the top two have had injury replacements.

McGregor was originally supposed to fight Cole Miller. I actually think this might be tougher. A win probably puts him in a title eliminator, if they don't just give him a title shot outright.

Don't rate Cummings at all, but I'm interested in seeing Gunnar Nelson fight whoever.

McCall vs. Pickett is awesome and should have title implications at flyweight.

May or may not watch anything below that.

This is the type of event that actually makes me wish I had fightpass.

McCall is obviously quality. I'm always intrigued by Gunnar, but honestly his opponent Cummings looked pretty good in his last few fights, I remember being impressed even if I don't remember why specifically. :)

Krylov is always good for a laugh and I feel like someone is getting finished in the main event. I despise Brandao so I'd be fine with that, and I'm curious how Conor/ufc would handle it so I'd be fine with that as well lol.

Maybe I'll look at the schedule and see if we have any more fightpass events soon and pick it up for a month.

Two questions:

How soon after an event ends can you watch it in its entirety on fightpass? Right away?

Secondly, I remember when fp was free I went on there to watch an event, and before I could navigate to the event, I saw they had spoilers all over the fightpass main page. Super annoying. Is that still a thing?

If you want to continue liking him, don't listen to the first time he was on rogan's podcast.

Still probably only going to watch the top 3 fights, but at least I'm somewhat excited to do so.

Just watch after. That's what I have to do for most events though, because of my time zone.

I watch the bigger ones live, because I don't want to run into spoilers, but lately it seems like nobody cares enough to spoil fights, and I can do usual internet stuff with impunity.

I was thinking of buying fight pass for the month if there were any more events on this month to watch but of course there aren't. Bad luck for me, they usually have two events per weekend on fightpass and now they don't even have two events over the course of the next month on there.

Heard something about Cub Swanson being flown in for a potential showdown with McGregor if he wins. Would be a way to fast track McGregor to a shot I guess, but he'd probably be in over his head there. Swanson shouldn't need that fight to get a shot either, but who knows what the schedule looks like now. Might not be true anyway.

Also, I feel like McCall vs. Pickett should be getting more attention as a possible #1 contender fight. At the very least, the winner should get Lineker for the next shot. Any of the 3 would be better than Cariaso, but ultimately, I can't get mad at the quality of contender for a champ who is willing to fight more than twice a year. Sometimes just seeing a dominant champ take on all comers is enough.

.

Ariel is pretty in the know, and he said he is hearing that if McGregor wins today, Poirier is next for him.

I kind of hope so, just because I think Cub is above Conor and deserves a shot.

So one of the guys on this card is a 34 year old 13-10 fighter? Yikes, even though he is obviously there for the irish fans, that's entering James McSweeney territory.

LOL, Brandao is such an idiot. Known for gassing like no other in the first round, he decides to do like 20 burpees in his corner before the fight begins in his short notice main event fight. Was super gassed by the end, gas tank failing within 3-4 mins.

Conor DWARFED him btw, what a huge fw.

I don't want to move anyone to fast, but I think both Conor and Gunnar should get top 10 opponents next, Gunnar top 15 at the least.

Great day of fights. The crowd was insane and the Irish fighters delivered. Connor is an absolute star, and should get the once every 6 months GSP treatment in Ireland.

Up next for all involved should be...

McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier
Brandao vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Nelson vs. Rick Story
Cummings vs. Leonardo Mafra
McCall vs. John Lineker
Pickett vs. John Moraga
Parke vs. Diego Sanchez
Kotani vs. Alex White
Latifi vs. Robert Drysdale
Dempsey vs. King (at 185 lbs.)
Seery vs. Scott Jorgensen
Pendred vs. Kenny Robertson (at 170 lbs.)
King vs. Dempsey
T. Smith vs. Bruno Santos
Troeng vs. Andrew Craig
Krylov vs. Gian Villante
Holohan vs. Ray Borg
Sampo vs. Alp Ozkilic

Cut List: Harris, Donovan.

Jeez, what a terrible performance from Brandao. Didn't do anything necessary in order to settle down and fight. And barely withstood any amount of punishment. Cut him.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.
