Suns considering Monroe

Post#1 » by E-Z » Mon Jul 21, 2014 3:40 pm

‏@Schultz_Report
Hearing Suns may be considering a Greg Monroe offer. They have space to get both him and Bledsoe but would lose cap flexibility long-term.

‏@AlexKennedyNBA
With the report that the Suns are interested in signing Greg Monroe, is it possible we see a double RFA sign-and-trade? Bledsoe for Monroe?

I don't know how reliable that is but it's certainly interesting. Looks like they want to keep both Monroe and Bledsoe though. Hopefully they crack and decide to just swap Bledsoe with Monroe. That would be a dream come true and would really turn this offseason around imo.

Suns considering Monroe

Lol at turning our offseason around like it's been a disaster...I'd live with a sign and trade straight up I suppose, but Bledsoe scares me with all those missed games from injury.

Well I never said it was a disaster, just very unspectacular. We haven't resolved the Smith/Monroe and the Jennings dilemmas yet and our best signing was Jodie freaking Meeks. Landing a top young PG like Bledsoe would not only clear up the Smith/Monroe dilemma but it would also give us a replacement for Jennings, who can be shopped later. We would kill two birds with one stone.

Bledsoe/Augustin
Caldwell-Pope/Meeks
Butler/Singler
Smith/Jerebko
Drummond/Gray

We would need big man depth but that is a playoff team next season with tons of room to grow.

Yea i had weird wording on that lol damn Mondays. I'm definitely all for clearing up the jam at the 4 spot, but would hate to see moose go. That said axing Jennings ASAP would definitely be nice.

Yeah, this has been beat to death in the Monroe super tour thread but I like the idea of a new thread because we have a poll now. Everything is better with a poll!

My opinion:
Neither Monroe or Bledsoe are worth the max.
Our biggest position weaknesses are SF and PG.
Bledsoe has risk; injuries.
Healthy Bledsoe > Healthy Monroe.
Neither Monroe or Smith fit perfectly next to Drummond, so I'm not attached to either.
Bledsoe is a homerun opportunity.

However, the swap idea is just speculation.. Apparently the Suns could just offer contracts to both. The reason why so many people have picked up on the swap is because PHX needs a big man and before the deadline last year they were interested in Gasol, Monroe is comparable to Gasol, PHX has an insane amount of PGs including IT who they just signed and Ennis they drafted.

Call me crazy but I wanna see Jennings under SVG. Hes a better passer than Thomas or Bledsoe.

Even better: Bledsoe and some crappy big for Monroe and Jennings.

(if that were possible)

What's funny is that Broussard reported the Suns offered 12M/year which Bledsoe rejected and I thought Detroit may have had an offer in the 12M range on the table for Monroe? Or maybe that was just speculation on here? But the only way it helps both Bledsoe and Monroe would be if the opposite teams were willing to throw a larger contract at the other player, and why would they? Because there's like no one else left capable of offering more except for Philly who has two PGs and two Cs ?

or am I off here?

I'm with you on this one.
I think Bledsoe is going to get more money than he's worth and he's coming off a serious injury.

Presumably, at least part of hesitation on both team's parts is that each team has relative depth at the position for their own free agents. If Greg was our only decent big, we would have probably maxed him and not looked back.

Bledsoe for Moose worries me. Bledsoe has had a lot of serious knee problems for so young a player. He's talented, no doubt, but he has missed a lot of games in his career. I'd rather see the Pistons get player(s) with reasonable health histories or just match and look for a better trade down the road. The Pistons surely have good medical staff and it's their call as to his suitability, but it seems like a big gamble as the only return on Moose.

Not a fan of bledsoes, though i think i'd rather have him than jennings just based on Defense, however i think moose is much more valuable so i would ask for the good morris brother back to be our SF. Bledsoe is undersized and has injury concerns. Giving him the max should not be a option

I doubt Phoenix would give up Bledsoe for Monroe but i hope it happens!

Don't know why dudes are creaming over Bledsoe so much. I'm going to need to see a little more than a pretty good 43 games before I swap him for my proven and reliable big who can play 2 positions.

Plus, like somebody said, I'd really like to see Jennings with some coaching.

I'm cool on Bledsoe... for now.

I don't think a double sign/trade is going to happen. Jennings/Augustine/Dinwiddie isn't spectacular, but I think it will do for SVG year 1.

What we can't do is lose Monroe for nothing. If Suns want to sign him to an offer sheet, fine, we'll just match and this drama is over.

I could totally see them giving him up for the same reasons some people don't want him hear. He is still slightly unproven and has an injury history. Add that to the fact that they have 2 other PGs and I could easily see them wanting Monroe (a position of need) over Bledsoe.
