Yeah i posted that in the thread seconds ago as well after reading it on twitter. Right move made. It was time to go in a different direction since this guy was not getting it done. His implosions early on the year were epic though. Never seen a closer melt down like he did early in the year against the Pirates and Twins especially. Wish him good luck elsewhere in the event someone picks him up.

Well there was no chance they were going to pick up his option so it was either trade him or keep him until the end of the season. I guess they lost hope in him. Disappointing. He has great stuff and could have been a lights out closer if he had anything resembling command. Maybe another team will fix him. The upside is still there.

Seems like one of those guys that will almostly certainly figure it out somewhere else, i persaonlly would have struck with him, you should be very careful cutting ties with arms like this.

He's 30 and been pitching in the bigs for 5 years now. This year his control was the worst it's ever been, with 17 walks in 19 innings. Not picking up his massive option years is a no-brainer, but there's nothing stopping them from signing him to a cheaper contract in the hopes he can still turn it around. No one is going to be offering him $6M per year next year, that's for sure.

He'll still be a Blue Jay through the end of the year...cannot imagine that someone will pick him up off waivers, so he'll head to AAA to try and figure it out.

Not the worst news, because it means that AA and company harbor no illusions of Santos being the answer. Surely we have to get a RHRP or two now, right?

Meanwhile, at age 25 after four seasons in AA, Nestor Molina is currently sporting a 4.79 ERA.

Whole lot of meh.

The lack of Nestor Molina updates every time Santos had a bad game was disappointing.

Pretty sad that we got to hope a team picks him up to actually take on any salary in a trade.

Best case scenario (and what the Jays are hoping for, I'm sure) is for him to be picked up, so the team can get salary relief. Because that's apparently the only way the Jays under Rogers can actually add talent these days.

The Jays under AA. Rogers has given AA the ninth highest budget in baseball to work with. I'm no Rogers apologist, but the vast majority of the blame for this sorry situation lies at AA's feet.

Worked exactly the same way under JP by the end of his reign. No meaningful additions for over a year and they were even dumping actual valuable players like Rios then for salary relief. History repeats itself with this organization.

Buffalo can add him to Romero, Drabek, Esmil Rogers & Steve Delabar. Maybe Brandon Morrow can join them soon as he rehabs. That becomes alternate universe Jays pitching staff. Three top end starters, a good long man, an all star set up man and closer with a wicked slider.

OK...so Drabek wasn't ever a top three starter, but we certainly hoped he would be one. The others aren't exaggerating though.

He has cleared waivers and is en-route to Buffalo.
