Durant: I've Been Hitting The Weight Room "A Lot"

Post#1 » by HotRocks34 » Tue Jul 22, 2014 3:56 pm

Looks like KD has taken the advice of teammate Kendrick Perkins to get into the weight room and work on his conditioning.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2136 ... witter.com

"I'm excited about next year. It's another opportunity for me to play this game at a high level, and I've been working out since a couple days after the Finals. I took some time off to rest my body and re-energize and get my mind right. I've been going hard and just trying to add everything to my game, from post-ups to jump shots to ball-handling.

I've been in the weight room a lot, so hopefully it pays off for me."

Sometimes it doesn't help. I remember both Kobe and Bosh adding muscle at some point in their career to mixed results.

Taking conditioning advice from Kendrick Perkins is a bad idea.

You know he sucks when you have to qualify him as top 50 when there's only 30 teams in the league.

This. Added bulk helps you fight through hits but it can also slow you down and decrease your quickness. The best is to find the right balance for your type of game.

I hope that it is at least with Tim Grover and he doesn't end up like Rudy Gay.

About time. He doesn't need to get ripped, but some muscle will help him immensely with his strength and make him a better player. He has been so damn thin his whole career. He has never grown out of his skinny 18-21 year-old arms/shoulders like Dwight, Lebron and now A.Davis have.

I hope American Caboclo gets help from Ibaka on how to work out.
Looking for a new signature. Currently, still evaluating.

IIRC.. Bosh put on like 15-20lbs of muscle prior to his last season with the Raptors, and he started the season at a different level. He couldn't sustain it however, and he only maintained it for like 2/3rd of the season.

As for Kobe, I found an article that said he started the 04-05 season at 235lbs, and for the next three years he averaged 27.6, 35.4 and 31.6ppg.. I'm not sure if he cut it all before the 05-06 or what, but it seems to have helped.

I think it'll help KD. He seems to run out of gas every season trying to carry that team. Hopefully the extra bulk will help him absorb the punishment.

I can't speak for Kobe, but Bosh played excellent with the added muscle. IIRC he dropped the weight because his knees couldn't handle it.

He's still skinny as ever, don't think he'll put on that much from now until October and if he does he'll most likely lose it.

Bosh bulked up noticeably his last year in Toronto and he did have one of his better seasons, however he said he didn't feel to comfortable with the weight and trimmed down again for miami.

Both Bosh and Durant have very typical ectomorph physiques and keeping weight on is very difficult for them.

He needs to just get in the post. At minimal have a dominant turnaround. It's not like he's getting blocked and he's certainly skilled enough.

If I was Kevin I wouldn't do anything that might compromise that jumper. The only season he's looked gassed to me was this year, with Westbrook missing a large chunk of the year and KD forced to do too much. He doesn't take a lot of hard hits either.

He'll continue to bulk up naturally as he grows older even with a minimal-impact strength training regimen.

KD has been remarkably injury-free to date given his size, the speed at which he plays, and the minutes he's putting up. And he keeps getting better. Don't fix what isn't broken: continue to refine your skills, keep yourself in shape, and if you have to add some lifting but focus on lean muscle and not bulk.

For players in their prime, adding muscle never hurts. It should definitely help Durant.

Kobe was actually around 225 at his biggest, using the now famous 666 workout. It was only when his knee started flaring up during the Pau era that he decided to lean down. But during that stretch at 225 he was a monster. He had the strength to post-up small forwards and rebound in traffic, but he was still quick enough to be the best 2-guard in the league.

Durant should watch film of Garnett's post game and midrange game. He has similar length as KG to get his shot up over anyone, but he has even further range. He'll be able to play some minutes at the 4 if he adds some muscle. He's next in line for best player in the game. With a post game he'll be unstoppable.
