Drummond has a lot to learn and SVG understands that his development is everything. He's going to focus on teaching Drummond to play within the scheme in year 1 before he unleashes him in year 2.

Just my guess

Why would Drummond's points increase and rebounds decrease? That almost makes no sense.

Not sure how it doesn't make sense? There are plenty of examples of players #s increasing in one category and decreasing in another. I think he will asked to do more things on both sides of the court which will take some of his focus away from rebounding, and I don't think he will be able to quite maintain the rediculous offensive rebounding numbers he put up last year under a coach that doesn't emphasise offensive rebounding.

Stan Van Gundy doesn't emphasize offensive rebounding? Can I get a quote?

“Stan studies the game, and he found offensive rebounding just isn’t important to winning,” says Steve Clifford, the Bobcats head coach and a Van Gundy assistant in Orlando. “Stealing the ball and creating turnovers are not usually factors in winning big.”

If Smith's 3 point attempts decrease (and they ought to), I would expect Drummond's offensive rebounding numbers to also decrease.
