I would rather do the three team deal and get a more balanced team with depth at every single position. If we could get Thompson, Martin and Waiters for just Gibson and Dunleavy I would do it in a heartbeat.
C: Noah, Gasol, Bairstow
PF: Gasol, Thompson, Mirotic
SF: Butler, McDermott, Mirotic
SG: Martin, Waiters, Snell
PG: Rose, Hinrich, Brooks
That to me looks like a well balanced team that would not only be the favorites in the east but the favorites to win it all. That team to me looks scary because our second unit would destroy every other teams second unit anytime.
I'm sorry but that team is lame.
Chunks of depth won't play /develop or serve much use.
On such a team, Waiters and Thompson will get limited minutes. McD will get even less minutes, while Mirotic will hardly see the floor.
Thompson (and Butler) are up for extensions after the season. Waiters up for extension after that.
You have all this depth that you can barely use and you will end up letting big chunks of it walk (unless you do a consolidation trade).
Teams don't play hockey line-ups. We tried that in back in 2010/11. When you get deep into the offs, the best players play major minutes.
BTW, if we pull off a McD, Mitoric, MDJ, Taj for Love and Martin deal, the 5 starters you have listed are still on the team (I'm guessing Gasol goes to the bench with Hinrich, Brooks, and Bear-toes).
You just verbalized what I've been thinking... Balance but not enough mins to develop the youth. The contract situation is big too. TT doesn't play C either.
