I used the ESPN Trade Machine for the first time just now, it's more addictive than I expected. I'm thinking small with a Hendo trade, and I think Cho should too. Just chopping his 2-year deal down to 1 year with a serviceable player would be somewhat of a win, if we could get a 2nd round pick out of the deal as well all the better.
My two modest trade proposals:
1.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=oxk9pzaCharlotte receives: Jason Terry (1 year $5.8 million contract) + a 2nd round pick
Sacramento receives: Gerald Henderson (2 years $6 million contract)
This would be the bottom of the barrel. Strictly something I would propose if we absolutely needed to unload Hendo because we discover our wing prospects (Hairston and Taylor especially) are legit and they need PT immediately. Or perhaps we need a quick deal to move Hendo because he will not accept a bench role.
Terry is an expiring, so we get Hendo's deal off the books in time to give Kemba/Biz their extensions. Also, for what it's worth, Terry's contract is $200k cheaper this year. 2nd round pick is just sweetener since Sactown gets an NBA-caliber veteran in his prime for practically nothing. Sacramento possibly does this because they intend to win relatively soon (2015) and Hendo can be a calming presence for their young SG prospects. Also: because they managed to turn Jason Terry into something not awful.
2.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mkz8rwbCharlotte receives: Tayshaun Prince
Memphis receives: Gerald Henderson
This is strictly a move to get Hendo's deal off the books in 2015 while still bringing in another wing who can supply minutes without everything falling apart. Prince is owed $1.7 million more this year than Hendo, but his deal expires after the season so it's just the price you pay to unload a contract you don't want anymore. Prince is also a natural backup for MKG at the SF position, and a professional who has a reputation for quality defense, team play and experience on multiple playoff teams that made deep runs.
Memphis possibly does this because right now their SF rotation is Pondexter and Prince which is just underwhelming enough to make Hendo seem worth adding. With Hendo they have a guy who they know can provide minutes while playing quality D. He's also a savings of $1.7 million this season, and with the free agent market as insane as it what this off-season they may see it being even worse next year. What if every mediocre wing is getting Jodie Meeks money next summer because the cap jumped up again? Hendo's deal locks in their core (assuming they re-sign Gasol) for the next 2 (Hendo/Conley/Lee) to 3 (Randolph/Allen/Pondexter) years. At that point they blow it up and start over.
I realize these aren't the types of deals that make you feel inspired, but I'm assuming that a nice return is not something to expect when dealing Hendo. If Cho can pull off a stealthy value play in this situation he's the GOAT.
