I always wonder what cash considerations means. Normally, cash is cash. Can you buy Timbits at Timmies with cash considerations? I presume cash considerations in this case doesn't mean considerable cash.

Guys, we're just scrounging up some cash for another waiver deal. The wheels are in motion.

Peace out, Upper Deck.

He's gonna become a jays-killer in a year. Count it.

I get that it is Deck McGuire... but really?

What's next? Selling concession stands to the Rays?

Auctioning off seats from the 500 level to a short season club?

Lemonade stand outside Anthopoulos' office?

We'll probably get more money selling off our minor league scrubs than anything Rogers will give.

You can look at pretty much any draft, from the perspective of most teams, and come up with a head scratcher. I'd say that drafting Chad Jenkins four slots ahead of Mike Trout is worse. If you want to play "what if", though that seems pointless.

Many teams didn't even know about Trout because he was from the less scouted northeast. Sale was a consensus top 10 player in that draft who dropped only because of his unconventional body type and release. Deck was just a stupid pick. It wasn't even like we needed a guaranteed signing.

I remember after the 2010 draft someone on this board(don't recall who) saying he would prefer the Jays sign Kris Bryant over Deck. And he got criticized for it by a few.

Deck is going to haunt us now. Oakland can do wonders for a starter.

Blew our trade deadline money on him too. Good thing we sold Deck for another go at it.

Sale was a rail-thin kid with a violent max-effort delivery which also entailed a clear-cut "inverted W". Hindsight blah blah blah, but there were legitimate reasons as to why he was so polarizing. Keith Law had him ranked #49 or something absurd like that, just to paint the picture. Deck was a near consensus Top 10 pick, in reality he actually "dropped" to us at #11. The fact is that he actually regressed since turning Pro, so while we can say now that he was a "stupid pick", no one saw him as a guy who would be throwing ~90mph with zero movement and average at best secondary offerings when he was drafted.

I dont see the point in agonizing over that pick anymore. Our next two picks were Aaron Sanchez and Noah Syndergaard, others include Dalton Pompey and Sean Nolin. We still had a good draft. Looking back, that 2010 first round was pretty **** overall...tons of pure flame-outs and guys who look like nothing. Josh Sale, who many wanted instead of McGuire, is currently posting a .623 OPS in High A at age 23. Hilariously enough, that would have actually been a worse pick than McGuire.

All I remember about Deck is scouting reports like "ceiling of of a 3/4 starter", "straight fastball", "no plus pitches". That was a JPR pick. Not the kind of player I want 11th overall. I'd still prefer to have a Josh Sale falling on his ass than that.

My recollection is that the Deck pick was not popular on this board (or battersbox.ca). Projected to a limited upside middle of rotation guy, at best. One of those Hasheem Thabeet picks that you know is stupid 30 seconds after it was made.

But I'm an AA (not Rogers) supporter because I think he's learned from the experience. We seem to be doing better and better in that regard.
