bbtb is late to the party... discussed here yesterday in this thread a few pages back.

I actually linked to the video here after seeing some random dude post it in the comments section of one of BBTB's facebook posts.

Confidence & repetition will take MKG's jump shot a lot farther than mechanics. I could care less about the form. I'm just happy to see that he's effortlessly comfortable attempting & making jump shots with range. Now, I'm just hoping it translate into the actual games like I'm kind of expecting. I have a lot of faith in MKG's game progressing into at least a borderline All-Star caliber player

I was looking for an inception gif to post in response to this, and came across this one, which is not all related but I found hilarious:

I don't think I've ever wanted a player to improve an aspect of their game as much as I want MKG to get a respectable jumper. If Price can work magic with him and turn him into a 15-18 ppg guy, we're looking at a top player in the league

That's my boy. MKG gonna be on his game this next season. Most players break out in their 3rd year. That's what I'm expecting.

I can't wait till he turn into our Gerald Wallace/Kawhi Leonard type player.

Even though it's a highlight reel I still cringed whenever he lined up a shot and I yelled out "DON'T SHOOT IT!!"

I felt sure he would miss even in his own highlight reel.

In all seriousness if we have spacing issues next year with MKG on the floor, and with Hendo on the bench, I'm coming down like a hammer. Hendo can't be a scapegoat for those issues anymore. So MKG fans will have to set their sights on Kemba Walker most likely.

Lance isn't much better at shooting than Henderson is, if we keep having spacing issues im blaming Lance! #MKGloveCircle

Or heck, we could let MKG turn 21 before we dump him because he's not an all star yet, which he would be if he had a decent shot.

Lance shot 36% compared to Hendo's 33% but Lance took far more shots from distance thus making him much more of a perimeter threat. You can't just look at percentages.

This. Hendo would pass on open 3s and defenders would know he wouldn't shoot. Lance will let it rain.

To be fair, Lance also has a tendency not to take shootable threes and rather opting for some improvised drives.

Not to say that he's as passive as Hendo but it does happen with Stephenson as well and it can be even more annoying since he should actually make them.

Ragging on MKG for not being able to shoot is like ragging on Drummond for not being able to make free throws.

How people can discredit a player who brings so much to the table over one aspect of his game is absolutely ridiculous imo.

It's an aspect of his game that we knew was poor before our FO drafted him, it's not like Harrison Barnes who was drafted for his one skill and it turns out that he's not that good at it anyway.

MKG holds our team together and is the core reason for our defensive ability as a team, when MKG was out injured, Clifford's schemes weren't effective at all with us going from 5th to 26th in defense.

Those are mind blowing numbers, and 20 games is a pretty good sample size.

MKG has the highest upside on our team and has already proven to have an immense impact on the W/L column.

One of the few good things you can say about JT's past season is that we managed a 96.2 DefRTG with MKG out and JT in his place for 7 games and then dropped off to 108.8 once Jeffrey tore his Achilles.

JT was definitely missed too defensively.

Aside from MKG, Taylor and Biz, we have no recognised defenders, Kemba is very solid at being a pest on that end, but is not elite at that level.

MKG and Biz are both integral to the success of our identity and both are the most criticised players on our team. :(

We can't really evaluate what may be holding us back as a team until we get a couple months into the season, but I really doubt MKG is going to be anywhere near the top of that list. His offense is poor at present but he more than makes up for it in overall impact with his defense and rebounding.

It's a give-and-take situation with him. It might seem simple to remove MKG and, voila, offensive spacing and overall efficiency will improve. But in practice the defense will suffer far more than the offense benefits so he still presents our team with the best value proposition. We don't have anyone to plug into his spot who can turn our team into an offensive juggernaut while sustaining at least mediocre defensive performance. All we would accomplish is dropping our defensive ranking into the low teens for a boost in offense which (in the best case) still leaves us well below elite.

I have a ton of confidence in MKG. I suspect he'll become at least decent on offense, good enough for defenders to close out on him when he's open, and with just that measly improvement his overall value as a player will skyrocket. MKG is a buy-low guy whose potential is highly underrated imo, I say we hang onto that lottery ticket and bet on his work ethic. In the mean time, he gives us positive value regardless so it's a win-win proposition.
