kaep is slightly better passer with 600 more yards rushing. his legs won couple of playoff games for niners.

don't think kaep is worth all that but if smith stayed and had similar success, he would be getting the same contract. it is just the going rate for a solid starting qb nowadays.

It's all about timing of the signing. Kaep's deal is gonna look cheap when Luck, Wilson & RGIII sign their next deals. Salary cap is going up almost $25M over the next two years too.

I think that Kaep is just scraping his potential now, too. He's only started for 1.5 years and he's already played in a Super Bowl and a pseudo Super Bowl (49ers Seahawks). Considering that the Niners have got him locked up for seven years to a relatively friendly salary, it seems like a great contract to give a 26 year old QB that should only improve with at least 5-7 prime years left.

Agree with all of this.

This is basically a "pay as you go" contract that locks in a young QB with huge potential (and a track record of success, albeit a short one) for the next 7 seasons. If he plays like one of the elite QBs in the NFL, he'll get paid like one. If he doesn't, then he won't. I don't see how anyone can objectively have an issue with this deal.

he probably gets less, not as good as kaep and has injury concerns.

rg3 on the other hand could ask for the keys to the franchise as he is the only good thing about redskins team thus hold all the cards. he just needs to stay relatively healthy till he signs the contract.

Salaries increase over time. Is Kaep worth that much $? Probably not, but I'd rather overpay for a talented QB than tread in mediocrity. And the next young hotshot QB will make even more. If RG3 returns to 2012 form and develops into a true superstar QB, Dan Snyder will shell out $200 Mil to keep him.

Kaep stil hasn't reached his ceiling. When he leads them to a superbowl one of these days people will change their tune.
