Drummond makes 19 man Team USA roster for Vegas camp

I can't believe Wall was left off for Kyrie. I guess Coach K probably has something to do with it. The more Kyrie I watch, the less impressed I am.

How come?

For me at least he's sort of in the same vein as Carmelo Anthony. He's a bit of a volume shooter. I'm not impressed with Melo and don't really see him as the guy you build around to win a championship.

However, in Kyrie's case it's a little different since LeBron is coming in. He might be great in the Robin role to LeBron's Batman. But Kyrie's getting paid like Batman...

Melo has career averages of 46% percent from the field 35% from three 81% percent from the line. He scores from the post, off spot ups, off the dribble, by penetrating the lane, from three, in half court and on the break. He is the most versatile scorer in the league. If the Pistons selected him instead of Darko, we would have potentially won several titles.

If you build a team worth a crap around Melo, you've got a pretty deadly team. I certainly wish we had him all these years.

There are definitely two schools of thought regarding Melo. One is that he hasn't been surrounded by good coaching / personnel which is the reason he hasn't come close to winning a championship.

The other is that his play style and other qualities don't contribute towards a championship in the way that other superstars do.

I think both are very valid viewpoints but I fall in the latter camp right now.

I think his play style is extremely ball-dominant and as such offenses with Melo on the floor often stagnate due to lack of ball-movement. He's shown that his is a capable defender but hasn't always given forth the effort. I also think that despite his talent he lacks the leadership qualities necessary to be 'the guy' on a championship team -- the ones that help make his peers better. Finally, I just get the impression that he's more concerned with personal interests (e.g. money, fame, etc) than he is in winning a championship when you compare him to other players in the league.

I'll be the first to admit that part of my viewpoint on Carmelo is personal bias. Will I be proven wrong? Only time will tell.

Drummond's going to chew these euro-bigs up. He's athletic enough to stay with them outside, they aren't athletic enough (or big enough) to deal with him inside. It's gonna be a bloodbath.
