Wildcard game - who pitches?
If season ended now we would face LAA in one game showdown. Who would you put on the mound?

Stroman, and I don't really think it's close. Buerhle is pretty much your only other option. Dickey would be my 3rd choice, Hutchison 4th, Happ 5th. But I don't think anyone is more capable of shutting down a team on the road than Marcus this year.

No idea. Because the Wild Card game comes only a couple games after the regular season finale, whichever of the four starters that isn't Happ who is rested, I guess.

**** your asterisk.

Yeah, if the WC comes down to the final days, like it probably will, then there is no way to really plan for it. Whoever's turn it is will start.
Ideally it would be Stroman or Dickey (in that order), but I'll be happy just to make that game to be honest.

Re: Wildcard game - who pitches?
too much season left to contemplate it seriously, but if we even get to that point, you'd have to think the series' leading up to that game would be pretty damn important themselves, and as schad mentioned, a two-day layoff isn't enough to simply pick and choose who we'd want starting that game. the angels seem uncatchable so that game would likely be on the road in anaheim. if stroman didn't have enough rest then i'd go with dickey in the big park as scary as that sounds

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

So far away, but whoever is healthy and rested.

Committee. Give Stroman the start, then Dickey, then Buhrle, then to the pen. Everybody stays rested for the Division series, and we're firing rockets the whole time.

This is a trick question. The correct answer is David Price (pitching for the Jays)

Impossible. If we get Price by Thursday, no chance Jays having to play a damn WC one-game playoff. We're home and dry.

As others have said, will likely come down to whoever is rested and available.
That said, if nothing changes (and things always have a way of changing in baseball), Stroman has to be the runaway choice right now. Again, provided he's rested.

Re: Wildcard game - who pitches?
Assuming this is a world where we're locked into a WC at least a week before it's actually played, meaning we can shift it around to start whoever we want, it'll be hard to get me off Buehrle by the end of the season. The stress and pressure for the kids would be a massive wildcard IMO, I have grown to absolutely despise all things about the knuckleball, and Happ isn't an option. With the cast we have, for a one-game playoff I think I hand the unflappable vet the ball and count on my offense to win the game rather than playing Stroman and just hoping his energy levels don't pop him like a balloon. Game 1 of a series, it's Stroman to maximize how many turns he can get, but a one-game series, I gotta go with the guy who I'm most confident will not get rattled by the occasion.

If Stroman is rested, I would go with him. If not, my next choice would be Dickey.

Re: Wildcard game - who pitches?
For me it's between Dickey and Stroman, with Buerhle next in line.
The knuckleball is so variable from start to start that I'd lean towards Stroman, despite the fact he's a rookie. That said, Dickey has strung together a nice run here. If it continues, it would be hard to start a rookie over a veteran.
In any event, it's imperative we avoid this crapshoot. With two months left and only 2.5 games out, we have more than enough time to reel in the Orioles.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I'd imagine if it's looking like we'll be in that game, Gibby would try to set up the rotation so one of the better starters will be available.

Re: Wildcard game - who pitches?
I think it has to be Buerhle.
Aside from Happ, I think he's the only one that's pitched in the playoffs and I'm not sure if I'm ready to to trust the other guys in such a high leverage situation.

Probably not even going to have the ability to pick and choose who their going to start given that they'll most likely be fighting for a playoff spot till the end of the season.
