At least he didn't go to the Orioles or Yankees. But wow, the Tigers are scary. They could potentially run out Price/Scherzer/Sanchez against us next week.

So Price, Scherzer, Verlander for the Tigers. Lester, Shark, Kazmir for the Athletics. Sounds like fun for the Jays if they make the playoffs.

Playoffs are a crapshoot anyway. Just worry about getting there.

Better rotations than that have fallen like a house of cards, the phrase "the playoffs are a crapshoot" might sound sound cliched but it is incredibly accurate

Sure, it's a "crapshoot"

But the Tigers and A's are now playing with loaded dice

Tigers had Scherzer/Verlander/Sanchez/Fister last year. Still lost to David Ortiz.

But, what the hell is that deal? Drew Smyly and Nick Franklin? That's the haul? I should be happy, 'cause that's great for the Jays, but what on earth is that? Control is nice and all, but holy crap is that an underwhelming package.

Tigers also gave up their #1 prospect. Willy Adames

This really doesn't seem like a fair return for Price from Tampa's perspective

Ah, if there are prospects involved to follow, that's a whole other ball o wax. I did what I never do, listen to sports talk radio, 'cause it was 4pm and I was on my way home, and they said that those two was the entire deal and I almost had to pull over.

Anyone who doesn't believe that the playoffs are a crapshoot should look up the 2006 Cardinals. That will end all doubt. The HOF bound Jeff Suppan, Jeff Weaver, and Anthony Reyes joined Chris Carpenter to win the Series that year.

Yup just have to get hot at the right time. This team has shown they have the ability to do that. I have a feeling that Stroman and Sanchez were the price in alot of these deals. If that is the case I'm glad AA hung up and held tight.

Still, just Adames is shocking. I thought for a minute there maybe the big leaguers were just the tip and the rest would come out now, but this deal is still remarkably terrible for TB.

We were never going to get a Lester or Price. AA and the media keep feeding this BS about how everyone is asking for Sanchez or Stroman. The team needed a bullpen piece at the very least and didn't need to trade anyone off the roster if they were willing to take on salary. They weren't and they knew they wouldn't get better by trading someone on the 25 for that help. That's where the truth in BS quotes comes from.

This trade is **** for the Rays. This season is the start of their demise. They can't keep trading stars for prospects and hitting every time. Eventually they're going to deal a star for garbage (hopefully this is the one) and their lack of recent prospect development will hurt them.

I'm glad TB got so little, but I'm annoyed that if the cost of Price was so low that we couldn't get him (even though I know we'd have to pay more being in the AL East).

And am I missing something about Adames? I know nothing about Detroit's farm system, but I don't even see him in the Fangraphs top 15 prospects lists for DET.

Would a package of

Hutchison (young mid rotation starter under control like Smyly)
Barretto (young high potential SS in A ball like Adames)
Pompey (young high potential OF hitting well on AA)

Not have trumped that offer? Even if you need to replace Pompey with Norris would it not be worth it to get a top 5 MLB pitcher?
