John Wall Knee Issues

Looks like John Wall has had some procedures done on his knee this summer. It looked like he wasn't working out. He almost didn't do USA basketball.

Sucks he hasn't been able to work on his game this summer. How concerning is this to all of you?

90% of NBA players have shockwave, blood cells ,etc type procedures done in the offseason, if only just for maintenance. If your legs were worth $80mil+, you would take every precaution as well.

I would be concerned if Wall hadn't just played an 82 game season + playoffs with no issue.

I've got tendonitis in my left bicep and my left heel from lifting and basketball. Nothing I could really do about it besides stopping and giving it a ton of rest and then it'd eventually start back up again. It's annoying but it's not an indication of structural issues.

Virtually all of the higher-minute NBA players have some kind of tendinitis or chronic knee/ankle/hip soreness. It sorta comes with running and jumping for several thousand minutes a year on a hard wood surface.

It's a concern when he has cartilage loss. I have a similar issue with my bicep. If it was a guy who hadn't missed half a season due to potential joint/knee issues I'd say it's nothing.

This will always be a concern with Wall. The various shots given also cause issues if you aren't working out with a completely balanced regimen (not favoring a weaker side), and if dosages are off. Some scar tissue/healing medications strengthen tendons, but weaken muscle. Some do the opposite.

I fully suspect whatever Derrick Rose was taking caused his second injury due to his left knee being neglected to strengthen his right ACL damaged knee. I'm addition intramuscular or sub q "spot injections" don't impact only that area despite the inferred "spot" reference.

The exception being enriched blood injections (orthokine etc), which do indeed assist only the general area. Bryant has these for his knees in Germany. I had the same procedure and it was amazing for a torn bicep tendon.

But any protein derived "healing" medications etc? They impact the entire body. Which, despite what some would think is not a good thing. Let's just pray Wall has an amazing trainer.

I'm curious to know what kind of cartilage issues he has. He's never had a major injury before or any kind of ligament damage and he's also not logged nearly enough minutes as a 6'4 man to have it be degenerative due to years/activity level.

Not saying I doubt it, but I'm pretty curious if there's damage of any real significance there at this point...

He has cartilage damage under his left patella. If I could pick a spot for cartilage damage in the knee, it would be the patella. You don't want damage to the meniscus, which is the major shock absorber in the joint.

You actually bring up a good discussion point. Wall has played 266/328 career regular season games; he did play all 82 last season. At this point in his career, he knows what it takes to stay in shape and be ready to play as many games as possible in the season. That said, it may be unrealistic to expect him to play all 82 games this season. Some injury/sickness will happen...its the law of averages. Would be interesting to look at all the players and figure out what would be realistic in terms of number of games we can expect them to play this season, based on past history.

They even worked on it right after his stress injury healed. I think I recall on that procedure they did under the knee cap.

Its not a serious procedure but its something to keep in the back of your head.

As long as he doesn't damage his vital tendons I'm not too worried
