Official Real Madrid CF Thread
Figured now that we'd won our 10th it was a good time for the most successful club in Spain and Europe to get its own thread.
Based in the capital of Spain, Madrid FC was founded in 1902. It was always operated by club members (called socios). The home ground (above) is Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, which currently has a capacity of 85,454 fans (it's being expanded to seat 90k+ ). The stadium is named after Santiago Bernabeu Yestes, who rebuilt the stadium and training facilities as president of Real Madrid after the Spanish civil war. In 1920 under the rule of King Alfonso XIII (an avid football fan), Madrid CF were given the "Real" title (meaning royal) like several other clubs in Spain, symbolizing the King's patronage of the teams and sport. The most famous rivalries are with the Catalan club FC Barcelona and the other club based in Madrid- Club Atletico de Madrid. Over recent years, a European rivalry with German giants FC Bayern Munich has also developed.
The current president is Florentino Perez. He loves to make it rain In the recent past, Madrid have been known to change managers frequently but our current manager is Carlo Ancelotti, who brought us our 10th Champion's League title, the coveted La Décima, in his first year. Several famous names have taken the hotseat over the last two decades though (Mourinho, Pellegrini, Schuster, Capello, Heynckes, and Del Bosque).
Madrid have famously always worn the all white kit, earning them the nickname Los Blancos. Other nicknames include Los Merengues (also for the white color of the jerseys), as well as Los Galacticos and Los Vikingos.
As a club, they have always attracted and recruited the premier talent in football to play for them. Players like Di Stefano, Gento, Kopa, and Puskas, who helped Madrid win the first 5 European Cup tournaments, are often considered the best generation. There was also a generation of strong, homegrown talent in the 80's named La Quinta Del Buitre. These are players that came through the Real Madrid Castilla (reserve team) and helped bring back Madrid's domestic success. People often overlook some of the youth team talent but world class players like Raul and Casillas have recently come through the ranks to the starting XI. Most famous are the Galacticos though- marquee summer signings of the world's best and most marketable footballers. Players like Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo, Beckham, Roberto Carlos, and Michael Owen made up the first round of Galacticos, while Cristiano, Xabi Alonso, Benzema, Kaka, Gareth Bale, Kroos, and James Rodriguez have (so far) made up the second. This leads to general havoc when trying to figure out who Madrid are going after in the summer, as any player who was dominated in the previous season inevitably gets linked to Madrid in the transfer window. Madrid love throwing around the big bucks to flex their strength as the team that can spend the most every summer.
At $3.44B, Madrid are the highest valued team in all of sports. Thus it comes as no surprise that Madrid have one of the highest revenues of all teams, bringing in approximately $675M in the last calendar year.
Now, a look at the trophy room, starting off with the most important one.
European Cup/UEFA Champions League (10):
1955–56, 1956–57, 1957–58, 1958–59, 1959–60, 1965–66, 1997–98, 1999–2000, 2001–02, 2013–14

1984–85, 1985–86

So we're making threads for small clubs like Real Madrid now?
Does this mean we're getting a Barnsley thread soon?

Re: Official Real Madrid CF Thread
Do you think Isco is really going to be sold? Also, does the possible acquisition of Falcao seem a little ridiculously egregious to anyone else? You can only field 10 outfield players at once. It seems like no matter what they do, there will always be exceptional attacking talent riding the pine, it feels like a waste.
Also, could Bale look any more like a plonker with his hairband? You don't look continental Gareth, you look like a tit.

Nothing makes me happier than British people trying to be fashionable. I noticed it a lot when I lived there, they see what people are doing in more trendy parts of Europe and try to copy it.

In pre-season Isco's been deployed as false nine quite a bit, suggesting we're ready to experiment with different positions to get him more playing time. He was more hyped after his transfer than everyone but Bale because people see him as the next big thing for the Spanish NT. Whilst we have no pure 9, between Benzema, Cristiano, Bale, Jese (out till december), Isco, and James, I'm sure Ancelotti can throw something together for an attacking 3 or 4. Isco doesn't seem like he wants out, but I'm sure they'd loan him if they thought he wouldn't get the playing time he needs here.
Falcao is great but he's coming off an injury. Also, fielding him and Cris is a nightmare- they don't track back enough to be on the pitch together. The real surprise for me would be us selling Khedira and Di Maria and not throwing as much money as possible at Juventus to bring in Pogba. Though if the rumours are true and we're getting near 100M for the pair, I'm not surprised we're ready to sell.
Bale's haircut idk what he was going for but it looks hilarious. He came back a lot stronger this summer but he looks straight up goofy

Spot on. Beckham and Woodgate did it too when they went to Madrid. They must've seen Guti's glorious locks and thought "yup, that's what I want"
Although to be fair, Woodgate kept it when he came back to England. Conversely, why the **** did Madrid ever sign Woodgate?

There's a fair share of "how the hell did they end up at Madrid" players from the 2000's

Gravesen is a legend, just look at the bloke, he looks like he should be in some cockney gangster movie with Danny Dyer and Ray Winstone. I'm not gonna knock Woody either, he helped get Spurs' first trophy in quite a while though he was a walking red card. I thought Faubert's spell at Madrid was only a loan though? Either way, still completely vexing.
According to wikipedia:
According to wikipedia:
His loan with Real Madrid was underwhelming. He missed training when he mistakenly thought he had the day off, and was pictured asleep on the bench during Real Madrid's match against Villarreal.

The Bale stuff is killing me here haha. Hate the hairband, his hairstyle was sick last year and the year before, don't know why he'd change.
Also, I assume this thread will work like Real does in real life and form a partnership with the Spurs thread? Then you can start forcibly taking our best posts while selling off your un-needed posts to the Arsenal thread.

glad to have you bro
Madrid have looked really sluggish in the american pre-season tour
probably has something to do with missing Benzema up front, formation experiments, and Bale and CR only getting a total of 15 minutes on the pitch together, but still, eager to see them train together a little more so we can really challenge for all 6 available trophies

Re: Official Real Madrid CF Thread
Yeah, I have read that they have looked super sluggish. The team is obviously missing a lot of talent with CR being injured and top players still not on the team due to post world cup rest. It is still a bit concerning, but I hope they can turn it around.
Many people thought James was an unnecessary signing, but looks like they will indeed need him in this transition from a counter attacking team to a possession based team.
I would be surprised if Falcao is not wearing a Madrid kit this season as well.

Sucks that it's probably Diego Lopez who ends up being shown the door to make way, he's been much better than Casillas this past season

he wasn't supposed to play against United as a precaution but he seemed to move fine during the 15 minutes he was given.
I expect he'll be raring to go by next week against Sevilla
