What do you want out of this season?

With PG going down it's obvious that our Finals aspirations are gone.

So what do you want from this season? Tank for a high lottery pick? Finish as a low seeded Playoff team?

Tbh I'd prefer to tank and try for a high pick and regroup the season after.

At this point, until we know more about PG's injury, I want a reload. Ship off who you have to and get a good pick. Draft BPA since we could use it at all positions (PG is our only great wing so a SG or SF would be fine). Its not looking good for us no matter what though. I'd put the following teams in front of us:

Cavs
Bulls
Wizards
Raps
Knicks
Nets
Heat
Pistons
Hawks
Hornets

That's 10 teams. Without PG, we're screwed so no reason to fight for the playoffs and end up with the 12th pick.

This is exactly an Old School Donnie Walsh type of move.

Charlotte fans on the trade board seemed okay with Zeller & Vonleh for West. You've got to admit, a West/Jefferson front court would be gnarly, plus they'd reunite Lance with someone he respects. Another scenario from Houston that I like is TJones plus 2 1sts .

Not a fan of breaking this team up and moving everybody. By the time the team was built back up through the draft, he'd be off of his contract and could bolt if he wanted to.

Paul George is 24. He didn't die. This season probably won't be good, to say the least, but PG will be back.

He didn't die but as far a basketball goes the Paul George we know will be dead for probably at least 2 seasons. He may never fully recover to be an all world athlete, that isn't your typical broken leg.

Blow it up, no sense in limping by all season to end up 10th in the east. We have some assets that could net some return now. D. West is near the end and could get us back some good value. I'm on the fence with Hibbert anyway, might as well see what we can get. G Hill is overpaid anyway, I'll take anything of value for him. Dump Scola for anything.

Play stuckey, solo, Allen, miles and copeland

With the youth, picks and the experience the youngsters get, when PG is back to playing shape we'll be adding an all NBA player to a solid young core.

2 years? You're quite the pessimist. Kevin Ware had a similar injury (Ware's looked worse though) and came back 7 months later. There's no precedence to say it'll take a world class athlete that long to recover.

It was a break in the middle of the leg. He broke his tibia. No tendons were torn, as far I've read.

Isnt the team eligible for some type of injury exception that would allow for them to add another player. I would look into using that. Also seems a lot of other teams fans think Indy should blow it up. If Solomon Hill is really good; then he will get a lot of minutes this year to develop. And if they make the playoffs; he would play a lot of valuable mins and get some experience. Maybe they can sign another young talent wing and get him in the rotation for development. This is a good time to try and develop other guys. Maybe Hibbert and Hill will finally develop some confidence. This logic of tanking sucks to me. I hope the NBA rigs the lottery to end that nonsense. I as a fan dont want to watch two or more years of bad basketball for the future benefit. I feel sorry for Philly fans and others who have been subjected to that especially the ones that pay to go watch their team get decimated on a nightly basis. Tanking should only happen at home with these kids and video games. The Jim O'Brien; Troy Murphy; Dunleavy years were enough for me.

yes, the details are on the star website. we can add a one year MLE level contract although we have to apply for relief first.

so what do I want out of this season? Andrew Luck or Tim Duncan - both of whom were drafted number one by a team that had a horrible year because of an injury to their best player (Manning and the Admiral).

I am torn on this, but will support Larry every which way he goes.

On a rebuild, that was my initial thought after seeing that freak injury. We can push to make the postseason and succeed on that but it would be hard to say that we will be competing for the ECF this season without George. If West and the other vets are on the same page about this and knows how Paul's injury would affect their contract status, I think it would be ideal to deal them away and give them another chance at the championship somewhere else.

Develop the younger guys in Solomon Hill, Rudez, and Lavoy Allen. See how Stuckey fits, and use this year to try to accumulate young talents in exchange for our vets.

On the other hand, Larry could be looking to push for the postseason hoping Paul George's injury heals in time for the postseason. Unlikely, but we never know. We can sign another wing or give Rudez a shot. Rudez may be a first timer in the NBA but he's been a pro for quite some time now. I honestly thought he was one of the young and forgotten European players until the reports said he got signed. Larry can also try, and probably is already, trying to explore trading for an SF in a rebuilding team for some expiring assets.

Gerald Wallace or Jeff Green comes to mind but I am not sure if we can have a fair trade with Boston for either of them, especially for the latter. We can also participate in a multi-team trade for Love to Cleveland in order to acquire younger guys like Budinger, Brewer, Mbah a Moute, etc. Maybe even J.R. Smith or Derrick Williams?

You make very good points Reaper and maybe it would be in our best interest to keep Roy, for instance, hoping to extend him on a team friendly deal.

What makes West so valuable is that we didn't have to invest a single asset to get him. He was essentially free to us. To be able to generate a sizeable return for him would help offset other scenarios where we lost assets (Plumlee, Bogdan, Lance, Granger).

All I'm saying is that if I'm Larry, I'd seriously consider it, with David's blessing of course. I'd leave it up to David, but knowing his demeanor like I think I do, he'd tell me to eff off and then commence to whipping my ass for insuating that he's a quitter.

Ware is sort of an asterisk. He played, but shut it down after a few ineffective games, took a medical redshirt and transferred to a lower level.

PG will have 12 weeks in a cast. During that time the left leg will be allowed to atrophy so that he won't over-compensate and risk further damage upon return. He'll be 12 weeks in recovery... Possibly ready to do 10 minutes a night in damage during the playoffs, but don't get your hopes up. The only good thing is that there are no ligaments to repair and re-stretch, just a long slow healing process for his bones and strengthening process for the muscles that will get little to no work for 3 months. He can still lift upper body and do whatever cardio training the staff can figure out...
This is a great opportunity for Roy Hibbert to step up and control games. I hope to see that happen. It's also a nice stage for Stuckey to show what he has. I have to assume that he'll be starting alongside Miles. It could also be a good chance for George Hill to assert himself as a team leader.
There's a lot of opportunity for the players that are willing to reach out and grab it.

With all of that said. The Pacers will fight for 8. As much as I'm up for moving West at this point in his career, I think that he's essential to keeping Roy on track. He seems to be the only one that can criticize Roy on the court and actually motivate him. Criticism from the others seems to produce negative consequences.
Management has a big decision. See who steps up and how so and see how much fight is in this team (all this makes them more dangerous next year with PG), or start filling in the pieces in PG anticipation for 15-16...
