Hill/Stuckey/Miles is hardly the perimeter trio you want to go to war with. West is gonna be 34 at the start of the season. George is out at least a year.
I think a Hibbert trade is that much more likely now.
Would anybody trade Smart/Wallace/Fav for Hibbert?
I'd rather do something like Sullinger/Green/pick for Hibbert. Hibbert would clearly be the starting center and that leaves even more of a minute crunch for the bigs.
I'm a little fussy about including Green in these kind of trades. I don't view Turner as an adequate starter at the 3 (especially if we're bringing in a post player).
I think the minutes crunch for our guards is a bigger deal anyway. Rondo/Smart/Turner is one too many non-shooting guards in my book. And I have no problem with crunching guys like Zeller and Bass out of minutes. If Sully and KO are getting minutes, I'm good.
I'd be willing to sacrifice a strong prospect like Smart whom we have an OK replacement for (Turner) if it meant dumping Wallace and adding a strong starting center.
Rondo/AB/Green/Sully/Hibbert would be the foundation of a really good team. Solid bench options with Thornton/Turner/KO/Zeller. A playoff team. Then we'd have a chance at adding another big FA in 2015, or the picks to try and add another max guy in trade.
We don't have to remake the team in one trade. You don't give up Smart over Green just because we don't have a Green replacement YET. We aren't winning anything next year anyways. Danny would have time to follow that trade up with another (or a FA signing next summer) to get that Green replacement.
It's like what the Sox just did. They realized that over the next few months it would be easier to add pitching then right-handed power. So they traded pitching for power without worrying about an immediate replacement. Now they have a few months to go find a #1 starter. In the NBA it is easier to find a Small Forward then a Starting Center... so trade the SF for a Center and then worry about finding a new SF later. In the mean time, we would get to see what Young and Turner can do. Just like the Sox will now have a few months to see what our young starting pitchers can do...
