True -- but there will still be a policy in place for the max extension a player can get coming off their rookie deal. He'll get that, obviously, so there really isn't any negotiating. Easiest signing ever.

Assuming he signs for the max its based on a percentage of the cap...if the cap rises significantly so does his salary....so he doesn't need to wait for the new tv deal.

fun fact: the Pistons made 507 threes last season(27th in the league) at 32% (30th in the league) - in comparison Spurs made 698 threes (12th) at 39.7% (1st in the league) ...Meeks, DJ, Butler, Martin alone made 452 threes last season all at 39% or better from downtown.

Jennings and KCP can and should do better from three, there will be soooo much more spacing especially if SVG can eliminate or at least limit Smith jumpers.

Assuming he signs for the max its based on a percentage of the cap...if the cap rises significantly so does his salary....so he doesn't need to wait for the new tv deal.

It doesn't work that way. The cap determines the initial year of the deal and the CBA determines how large the % increases can be from that amount each year.

The terms of a contract when signed are not a sliding scale according to fluctuation in salary cap figures.

If what you're describing is true Lebron would have had no issues signing a longer max deal with Cleveland.

Extensions are still for dollar amounts, not based on a percentage of whatever the cap will be when they kick in.

Salary caps aren't determined years in advance. They're determined right after the preceding season. There is an anticipated hike when the new deal kicks in. It might even be a certainty. But deals still can't be signed based on that cap until that salary cap actually exists.

Assuming they trade Bennett, Wiggins for Love, Barrea

Irving / Barrea
Waiters / Allen
Lebron / Miller - Marion
Love / Thompson
Varejao

Very deep lineup even if Miller, Marion, Allen are all old as hell

Still think they need to move Waiters out for a shot blocker center type because he'd not going to be happy being the fourth option on that team.

I think Love plays more center than PF, Bron and Marion are just as likely to play big minutes at the 4 in today's game as they are the 3 also. I don't see them moving Waiters just for any big guy that can protect the rim, dude is just too good. The Cavs defense will stink regardless with Love and Irving out there.

You don't think with Lebron's apparent loss of weight that he's intending to play mostly on the wing? I think the combo of Tristan Thompson and Marion will log a lot of minutes next to Love in the front court though. And I think that with the collection of Thompson, Marion, Varejao, Haywood, and Love, they'll be better off with Lebron mostly as a 3. Especially since he's likely running the offense most of the time and that he's not a big slow sf that can't guard other positions, they can bring in other wings like Mike Miller while they have two bigs on the court already, without suffering from too many big slow players on the court

I doubt that. That automatically makes them one of the worst defensive lineups in the league.
