Everyone I talk to doesn't care about the Timberwolves

Post#1 » by Minnesota Power » Sun Aug 3, 2014 10:05 pm

So just yesterday at work everyone was saying they don't care about the team and that Seattle could have it. I told them the Target Center is being renovated and the lease was extended to 2032 from 2025. They said they can just break it because Seattle broke their lease. Except breaking a 2010 lease in 2008 is way different then breaking a lease that goes until 2032 with a newly renovated arena.

Sad thing is these moronic people don't understand how all 30 owners need to vote and the owner needs to make a "good faith" effort to keep the team where there at.

Even sadder is if the Timberwolves ever become good again theyll all be buying Timberwolves gear and going to games and talking how they've always been a fan.

These people should be arrested for their ignorance on how relocation works.
I want to move back to Minnesota, I miss it sooooo much!

LOL you cant get too upset at therm. Minnesota does not go out of its way to praise the wolves. Fans are few and far between. Ask a bunch of women 18-30 about what their favorite sports are to watch and you will hear Hockey, Football, and Baseball. Basketball is a super rare answer. Wolves gear is hard to to spot. If the team gets good support will grow but naturally this isn't a basketball state at all beyond the regional HS level.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

I've never been to Minnesota, been a Wolves fan since I started watching basketball actively, but I find this hilarious.

Don't worry true Wolves fans stick threw the good and bad times. If people dont watch now or haven't supported the team in years we don't need the band wagon fans that are surly going to jump on the bandwagon once Wiggins and Lavine start dunking all over cats and Rubio is running the show of one if not the funniest teams in the league.

Eh, I live in Minnesota & love the Wolves. I also know several people who love them that also live here. The sports for me go Football, Basketball, NCAAF, Baseball than NCAAB. Don't care for hockey at all.

You should see the looks I get for wearing my TWolves gear down in Columbus, Ga. I've had people ask me if it was my local rec league or church team.

With RR and possibly six intriguing youngsters from the past two drafts, including two no. 1 overall picks, the TWolves marketing department finally has something besides Crunch to put into promo videos.

2014 #1 (1) Wiggins
2014 #1 (13) Lavine
2014 #2 (40) Robinson III
2013 #1 (1) Bennett
2013 #1 (14) Muhammad
2013 #1 (21) Dieng

Huh? How come you seem more confident in the Wolves staying in Minneapolis when talking to your co-workers than you've been towards this board?

How did you know I worked at Walmart? Maybe I mentioned it in an old post somewhere and don't remember.

And yes we do need the "fairweather" fans unfortunately. It's gonna look bad on us as a market and to Adam Silver and the other 29 NBA owners if our team wins a championship and were still in the bottom 5 for attendance with Target Center being a ghost town.

One thing this city knows how to do is bandwagon. If the Wolves get back to '04 levels, it'll be packed and the city will become a Wolves town, since the Vikings are in offseason at that point.

Nothing worse or more aggravating than bandwagon fans. But what are you gonna do?
Ive been with my teams since their inception!!!
Well, except for the Red Sox and my Louisville Cardinals!!!
That would make me very ancient!!!

Anyway, our TWolves need all the fans and support that we can get. Hard Core faithful like us or bandwagoners. Doesn't matter right now.

But I will say that once Rubio and Lavine and Wiggins start running and gunning we are gonna be "must see TV"!

I don't know why everyone claims to be a Vikings fan. They are absolute garbage. Maybe everyone in Minnesota thinks it is cool to be fans of the "tough guy" sport that they think football is.
As a past season ticket holder of the Vikings (back in the early Moss days), I wouldn't have minded them going to LA.

Honestly, you can't really blame people for not caring about the Wolves. I'm from SD but lived in MN for a while too, and until they got Love, I never cared to watch them at all. I hated Garnett with a passion, and they just had zero appeal to me, largely due to him. The last 5 years or so I've watched them a lot though, and been to a handful of games as well. It just makes me mad that Love is likely gone, because I REALLY like(d) what they're building there, especially if Dieng improves and you can replace Pek with him (he compliments Love much better than Pek does). Teams need sustained success to get the casual fans interested. You can't expect a team with no history to have a large fan base when they suck and can't even make the playoffs for a decade.

For those who are curious, I do cheer for the Wolves and the Bulls are my team, have been since I was a kid in the late 80s, before the Wolves even existed. I like to see the "local" teams do well, since I get to see their games on TV and they're within driving distance. Vikings are my favorite MN team, and I like what they're building too. They've been acquiring great talent lately, and just need that coach and QB to put it to use.....I think they got their coach, QB remains to be seen. Twins are the only baseball team I follow, partially because I'm related through marriage to one of their all-time greats who was also the batting coach for years, who taught me to bat when I was a kid and whose nieces babysat me as a kid, and his son did once too (along with his nephew). I don't watch the Twinks much anymore though. Too boring on tv, but when I lived there 10 years ago I made it to some games. (I greatly prefer the dome to the new stadium, since a 300 mile drive wasn't at the risk of being a waste due to frickin rain back then)

Hockey? barf
