The Bennett/Fuller Scuffle from 8/4

Marc Trestman isn’t one to waste any reps on the practice field. That’s why it was so surprising to see him cut off red zone drills and end practice early Monday after an on-field incident between tight end Martellus Bennett and rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller.

“I stopped the practice. I felt it was time to stop,” Trestman said. “There were a lot of people involved that care a lot about this football team. I felt we got enough done today, and it was the best (for) the team to move forward, finish with the walk-throughs and move on to our meetings this afternoon.”

The incident happened late in practice when Fuller came across Bennett’s right shoulder as the tight end was making a catch. The contact sent Bennett to the ground, which is frowned upon in practice. Fuller later said he was going for the ball and thought he hit the ball, but Bennett took exception, whipping the cornerback to the ground.

It's kind of warped if you really think about it. He hasn't done this during a game, but he goes after teammates.

I will say however that Bennett needs to calm his ass down. This is what, the 3rd time he's tried to fight a teammate in practice since he's gotten here? I mean what if he injured Fuller?

The nonsense about him saying he just likes to go hard and is pure BS. Trying to hurt your own teammates doesn't help you win. He needs to learn how to control himself.

Honestly, after watching the video I sort of side with Martellus on this one. Fuller claims that he's going for the ball, but if he was he totally missed on it and ended up bringing Martellus down hard. Was how he reacted right? (Especially when he could have easily injured Fuller by slamming him down like that) No. But I can see how it happened in the heat of the moment. At the end of the day, it's just another in the long line of training camp scuffles that happen in every camp every year.

Regardless of whose fault it is, it certainly isn't something I want to see happening again. Bennett going after teammates can't be good for chemistry, and as was said, he could have injured Fuller. With Wilson's injury news, we don't need any more bad luck.

Bully that this was Fuller's fault. It was a football play... he wasn't being douchy. Martellus crossed the line and suspending him to make a point was the right call. These guys need to be a band of brothers out there and MB... as much as I am a fan... is constantly scuffling with teammates.

I look at Jared Allen working with Bushrod after practices showing him how he got burned and how to prevent that on Sundays and Ratliff doing the same with Slauson and I see a culture where guys are trying to elevate each other. That has to be preserved.

This time, Martellus gets a suspension. Next time he has to fight Joe Kim. 8-)

If this was his first incident, I would maybe agree with you. It's not and trying to hurt your teammate should not be something that should be looked over.

Rumor seems to be that Bennett got into it with Marshall afterwards. There's more to the story.

From what I heard from the JDickerson on Waddle and Silvy was that Marshall was yelling at him to stop behaving like a knucklehead.

I think what's going on is that Trestman is tired of this repeated crap of interrupting his practices. Like most good coaches, he doesn't like to waste time.
