Re: The Official TJ Warren Thread!
Don't know what that means.... but see you are a 'Packer'
Glad to have you here..... the minute he was drafted, two of my Pack bros called me and howled with accolades, and now they are Suns fans.... or at least keeping a watchful eye. Lets hope he lives up to the expectations. Would be nice to have another ROY candidate/winner... the last ones turned out pretty good for us. Stat/Davis/Adams
In the past 60+ yrs, there have been only 5 players drafted out of the top ten to wear the crown .

Re: The Official TJ Warren Thread!
He was called TJ Buckets in college. That will probably stick. Its just that its been used before (Toney Delk was toney buckets and McBuckets in this draft).
Maybe shorten it to TBucket. Which is also one of the these "Old School" hot rods. They are minimalistic, no frills, throw back, made from a Model T Bucket, and it goes with his name.
Wouldn't be fun if he developed enough that you could really promote that nick? Can you see a custom made T-Bucket hot rod in purple and orange with Suns flames and the Gorilla driving it onto the court at a game?

Re: The Official TJ Warren Thread!
With Pj tucker being suspended for 3 games how do you see the minutes for our sf?
Green/Marcus/Warren?
maybe like 32/8/8
Really want to see Warren play in a few nba games before he gets buried on our bench.

Also Warren is getting a lot of love in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1340687
As a sleeper. Only mentioned like 3-4 times and I think some1 listed ennis once. But that's more than I thought I would see.

The more I think about Warren, the more I think he is going to make us forget about Bledsoe.

^^ Bledsoe will take us to the playoffs next season. I will not forget that when we're 9-10th seed.

Re: The Official TJ Warren Thread!
So far in preseason
18 minutes, 13 points, .500 fg (5 of 10), .600 from 3 (3 of 5), 7 boards, 1 asst.
Outside shot better than advertised, rebounding better than expected, midrange as advertised. Minutes limited.

Re: The Official TJ Warren Thread!
The thing I like about him is that everything on the court looks easy for him. He just has a natural feel for the game.
We have a 20-25 ppg scorer, in a year or two.

Re: The Official TJ Warren Thread!
The interesting thing about Warren is that he makes his living in the midrange, which is a shot that NBA offenses are moving away from as it's typically a low-yield attempt. That's a little worrisome, and I really do think he's going to need to A) expand his range beyond the arc, B) work on his passing because the dude really didn't pass at all in college, and C) improve his defense in order to truly maximize his potential.
On the other hand...the fact that NBA defenses are very, very willing to give up the midrange jumper means that it's probably a good idea to have a guy on the team whose midrange shot is his bread and butter. That's actually a key reason why Portland beat Houston in the playoffs this year. Houston guarded against the paint and 3s, which is the right thing to do 99% of the time, but they ended up facing a team that was loaded with midrange shooters and their strategy backfired.
If Warren can develop a three point shot(and I believe that he can), then we have a major sparkplug off the bench. If he can defend better and sort of settle into one position(either work on his ballhandling and get lighter/more explosive to shift SF, or bulk up and become a Milsap-esque PF), then we have a dude who can be one of the better starters in the league. I'm optimistic.

From that Goldsberry article a few pages ago:
Kirk Goldsberry wrote:Here’s the sad part: The 3-point line has eroded the value of players like Warren. It’s sad because scoring like King used to do requires equal parts intellect, athleticism, and practice. It’s pure basketball. Hitting a left shoulder half-hook over Roy Hibbert is the equivalent of blowing a fastball past a cleanup hitter; fooling Tim Duncan with a savvy up-and-under is akin to freezing Miguel Cabrera with an off-speed pitch. Unfortunately, given the way the league is trending, those skills have diminishing value, and guys who can do that are essentially like cinematographers who prefer to shoot in black and white.
The truth is that even the world’s best inner midrange shooters offer only marginally more scoring value than an average 3-point shooter. Not only is the league taking more 3s (and fewer midrange shots) than ever before, but rosters and salaries are beginning to reflect these trends. As a small forward trying to find a place in today’s NBA, it doesn’t bode well for Warren that he made just 17 of 88 shots (19 percent) beyond 16 feet last season. For him to maximize his value, Warren will not only have to continue his success close to the hoop, he’ll also have to improve both his frequency and his efficiency out on the perimeter.

I love TJ. He's soo good. Please give him more touches in one of these preseason games just to see what he can do against nba level comp.

Re: The Official TJ Warren Thread!
How about we wait for the guy to actually do something before bestowing an all-too-stupid nickname on him?
Nicknames should be earned and they should come organically.
So sick of today's inclination to nickname-ify everything and everyone.
