Nah, the add-ons are usually appearance and success related financial incentives ...

And look at the Luke Shaw signing and tell me they are not spending. What do the newspapers say about his wages? Apparently over 100k and some say close to 120k
I think that the transfer fee (£27 million) and the wages (£100,000 per week) for Shaw are high, but he is only 19, and would very likely represent a solution for the LB spot at Man Utd for the next 10-12 years ... In any case, he is a smarter signing than the 29-year-old Filipe Luis for a transfer fee of £16 million, at £80,000 per week ...
Only time will tell, won't it?

Generally, I am in favor of buying talented young players and developing them into top class players ... That is what separates the best managers from the mediocre ones ... The mediocre managers with lots of money usually go for experienced fully developed players who don't require development and teaching ... LVG has never been afraid of developing and teaching talented young players, so I can understand why he has went for Shaw ...

Well, he would probably fit well in LVG's 3-5-2, but I don't see it as a smart move, especially considering Vermaelen's injury record in recent years ... Personally, I was surprised to see LVG missing on Stefan de Vrij, who has moved to Lazio for only €8.5 million ...

Actually, the latest reports suggest that he is leaning toward staying in England with Man Utd ...

-catalan radio saying a deal with arsenal and barca is close and would have been done already had it not been for united
-wenger saying today he prefers the offers abroad and I dont think he's going to sell to manchester anymore
-MundoDeportivo in spain reporting a sale of 13M euros to barca
vermaelen obviously prefers united and staying in england but I think we have the upper hand here and will push through a move abroad.

With only 12 months left on his contract, I don't think that you have much leverage on Vermaelen's next destination ... If he wants to go to Man Utd, he will very likely end up there ...

A little late on posting but congrats to Wazza on becoming the new captain. Obviously has had his ups and downs with the club, but always gives 100% on the pitch. Played well for us in a disastrous season last year and is just 33 goals away from becoming the club's top scorer. Has looked fit and sharp in preseason so here's to hoping he has a killer season.

Yeah, he deserves to be captain. Would have been criminal if RVP was given the armband. Now he just needs some new teammates.

He's not your model captain but no one can say that he doesn't leave it all on the pitch. Hopefully his work ethic can rub off on the rest of the team now that's he the leader.

I'm pretty sure there is a Liverpool thread.

Our squad is about as deep as my kitchen sink.
