There are about 5-6 guys here, and I think Milan's longevity the way this project is defined puts the behind all of them.
That's fine; I don't care that much what time period we use as long as we follow it.

When we were deciding on rules, I asked people if they wanted to include the pre-shot clock era. Last time we didn't which put Mikan outside the boundaries but the overwhelming amount of people who said something asked that we include pre-shot clock NBA. Later I realized I hadn't included the 2 years prior to the NBA where we have data in B-R.com (the site is so good that I probably overrely on it) but got no responses so I didn't change the rules.

Re: RealGM Top 100 LIST- list, voting panel, metathinking
I shouted out our Top 100 project on the Celtics Beat podcast this week. For those that don't know, I'm one of the co-hosts of the show. This week we interviewed Peter Vecsey, as well as Jay King of MassLive.com. We also dedicated a segment at the end of the show to our Top 100 List, and my co-host gave some opinions (hint: it's a Celtics podcast. He thought Bird and Russell should have been higher
).
Anyway, for any that might want to hear it, here's the link: http://bit.ly/1AICNos . The Top 100 talk is about 51 minutes in.
Other things on this week's show:
*In more confirmation that Kevin Love is likely headed to Cleveland, Vecsey went on record that there is "no doubt" that Love is going to play with LeBron.
*Vecsey once coached Cavs guard Kyrie Irving in an exhibition game. Vecsey's assistant coach for that game: Kevin Love
* According to Vecsey, the Lakers hiring Byron Scott as a head coach was "weak". Vecsey says that Scott "not a hard worker" that "brings golf clubs" everywhere he goes
*Said that Kevin Durant could consider the Lakers when he hits free agency in a couple of years.
*Said Kevin Love wanted to return to Los Angeles, but that the ownership situation scared him.
Jay King of MassLive.com was also on the show giving his take on the Celtics' offseason. Plus, I gave my impressions from my trip out to the Vegas Summer League (who looked more impressive in person: Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker? What not-as-heralded rookie looked better than both of them?).
Anyway, I don't normally hype the show here. But since we spent some time talking about our Top 100 project, I thought it was appropriate this week.

That's interesting to me that the ownership situation is what's supposedly keeping Love from the Lakers (historically that has been one of the many positives to play in LA). Are the Buss children not respected in the slightest, or is it the perception that Jim Buss is a poor fit to run the day-to-day operations?
Thanks for the shout-out by the way, I'll listen to the podcast while doing my audits.
So when is this plane going down? I'll ride it til' it hits the ground!

I told myself that I would be here for the next time the list was made, but alas I missed out.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

You can still join the list of voters, just ask Penbeast.

Your co-host said something really interesting -- he essentially balked at the idea of separating an individual from his team because "the truly great players have a way of creating that environment around them."
I won't beat a dead horse, but not only is this circular, but I think it's safe to call that ignorant. I know that's a loaded term, but I think it's the most fitting term here to describe a lack of historical knowledge that this kind of arguer typically purports to know. I'm willing to bet money that if you quizzed him, he is unaware of
(a) all the all-time players who have been on floundering teams at some point
(b) the limitations in player impact based on the +/- family
(c) the performance of many championship-level (or winning) teams without key players in other than the star

To be ignorant is simply to "[lack] knowledge (in a particular area or matter)." To be "unaware (of)" something. I like to use myself as an example, because no one is likely to take umbrage at it.
I am ignorant when it comes to the sport of hockey. I know this. I am ignorant when it comes to some of the quantitative analysis some people use here, and in some past threads, the things some posters were talking about went over my head as I didn't know what they were talking about. That is no aspersion on my intelligence, or on what I know. There isn't a person on earth now or past who isn't ignorant about something. Everyone's born into a state of ignorance. In and of itself, it is simply neutral. It can also be remedied.
It shifts from neutral to negative, however, when combined with arrogance. Arrogance is thinking higher of oneself than is warranted. If I, being ignorant in the subject of hockey, then presume to be able to argue about hockey with someone who knows more about it than I do, I am now arrogant, because now I, being ignorant, evidently am unaware of my ignorance in thinking I know enough to argue with someone who isn't ignorant. I am now thinking higher of myself than is warranted. That is a negative. That is deserving of criticism.
I remember your posts from the RPOY project, you consistently brought it. Please continue to do so, sir. This board needs guys like you to counteract ... worthless posters

penbeast read your PM, can't write back, too early I guess... Yes, will contribute more and in a rational way, and would love to be added, then.

It'll probably be a few threads before he'll invite you. I waited a few spots before having a vote. Just hang in there and hopefully you'll stick around til 100.

Just a loose question - where do you guys see Dennis Rodman going? Does he sneak into your top 50? I'm interested in others' opinions, as I really struggle to rank him, because of how unique and really incomparable to anyone else his skillset was.

I've seen that documentary, but what exactly do you mean by "might slightly change your stance on him"? It's a cool documentary, but I didn't really learn anything new about Rodman from it.

Yeah me neither, that's why "might slightly"... But I did like him more afterwards.

I don't have Rodman in my top 50. Probably in the 55-65 range.
